Baker College of Jackson is looking for a Sr Campus Safety Officer to join the team!

In this critical role, you will be responsible for maintaining a secure and welcoming environment for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

As a Sr. Campus Safety Officer, you will play a key role in safeguarding our campus community by providing personal and property security, performing routine patrols, responding to emergencies, and delivering essential safety services such as escorts and public assistance. The Sr. Campus Safety Officer is responsible for patrolling assigned areas on foot or in a vehicle to ensure the security of individuals, buildings, and equipment. This role includes checking doors, windows, and gates, monitoring for unauthorized persons or suspicious activity, and addressing violations such as loitering or prohibited items. The officer provides escort services and public assistance, responds to emergencies, and reports safety hazards or breaches. Duties also include assisting with vehicle lockouts and jump-starts, investigating incidents, preparing reports, supporting law enforcement when necessary, and mentoring new officers. Additionally, the officer may serve as a desk officer, act as a Campus Security Authority under the Clery Act, and help with departmental administrative tasks.

Candidates must have 5-10 years of full- or part-time experience in law enforcement, the military, or security. An associate's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field from an accredited college or university is preferred. Applicants should have served as a Baker College Campus Safety Officer for at least five years or possess a minimum of two years of leadership experience. Officers must meet all qualifications required by the State of Michigan and Baker College, including carrying a firearm as a condition of employment. Candidates are required to provide and carry a personally owned, high-quality large or medium frame semi-automatic pistol in 9mm or .40 caliber, deemed suitable for duty use by the Director of Campus Safety. A quality duty holster with a minimum level II retention rating is also required. Candidates must maintain a valid concealed pistol license, a valid driver's license and certification in first aid, CPR/AED. In addition, candidates must be proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and web-based email platforms.
