GENERAL NATURE OF POSITION

To provide, through multi-agency involvement and San Jose State University student service learning, inclusive aquatic and land-based activities that target the promotion of physical health and wellness in individuals with disabilities, obesity, and/or advanced age from the greater Santa Clara County community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages daily operations of front desk and fitness areas, including staff supervision and training.
  • Assesses and evaluates program budget, registration, and recruitment efforts.
  • Oversight of internship program and interns.
  • Ensures compliance with SJSU and TC safety protocols; coordinates emergency procedures. Maintains office, first aid and cleaning supplies.
  • Maintains land safety and emergency procedures in compliance with industry standards, collaborates with POD on TC-wide protocols, and supports the development of land-based safety programs including front desk, personal training, group exercise, certifications, and rentals.
  • Works with POD to maintain land rental schedules and enforces rules and code of conduct for rental groups.
  • Supports staffing logistics for special events and participates in fundraising activities.
  • Responds and assists in rescues and medical emergencies when needed.
  • Collaborates with county staff on non-aquatic facility maintenance and repairs, and works with cleaning teams and POD to maintain site cleanliness and address health and safety concerns.
  • Handles customer concerns as it relates to front desk operations and land programs.
  • Provides support in various roles as needed and qualified, such as group exercise instruction or lifeguarding.
  • Other duties as assigned.


INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS

  1. Reports directly to the program and operations director.
  2. Interacts with all levels of SJSU and Research Foundation staff, as well as other internal and external clients, customers, and vendors.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Supervises, trains and schedules interns, fitness instructors, personal trainers, front desk and special events staff.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience Required


  • Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Adapted Physical Activity or related field.
  • Two years of demonstrated experience working in fitness programs and facility management.
  • Supervision experience required.
  • CPR/AED or BLS certified.
  • Group exercise and/or Personal Training Certification.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a non-profit organization.
  • Current Lifeguard Certified (American Red Cross Preferred).
  • American Red Cross CPR/BLS Instructor Certified (if not certified at time of hire, it will be required within first 6 months).


Knowledge, Skills Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of principles and practice of fitness programs development and administration for special populations.
  • Proficiency in software including but not limited to Microsoft Office, DocuSign, Google Suite, Recdesk, Sling.
  • Knowledge of rules, regulations, policies and principles as related to aquatics and fitness.
  • Ability to analyze data and budgets to support growth of land-based programs.
  • Ability to interact will all ages and ability levels.
  • Customer service skills with the ability to manage conflicts and create an inclusive environment that supports the mission and vision of the center.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships across all levels of the organization including community members and partners.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with other supervisors and staff to grow and develop cohesive programs.


Physical Demands

  • Must be able to operate general office equipment.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to walk, run, jump, climb, swim, sit, lift and carry equipment up to 45 pounds.
