About the Opportunity

We invite applications for the position of Research Scientist in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Cell Biology at West Virginia University. The successful candidate will participate in research and training activities in the Barbier Laboratory with a research focus of developing monoclonal antibodies against pathogens. The position will include further development of research in this field, laboratory management, mentoring, and teaching responsibilities.

What You'll Do



  • Conduct research in the field of monoclonal antibodies with a focus on areas such as antibody engineering, applications of therapeutic antibodies, antibody-antigen interactions, using next-generation sequencing for antibody development and evaluating immune responses.
  • Work with the principal investigator (PI) to develop and implement goals and objectives of monoclonal antibody projects.
  • Publish and present research findings in highly respected, peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
  • Collaborate with others on multi-disciplinary research projects.
  • Teach some lectures in undergraduate and graduate team courses related to immunology and microbiology and contribute to the department's curriculum development.
  • Supervise and mentor undergraduate, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows in the lab.
  • Train lab members on protocols and procedures, ensuring adherence to established guidelines.
  • Gather, record, interpret and present data resulting from research activities.
  • Participate in the preparation of progress reports for grants and contracts.
  • Facilitate and foster a collaborative and productive research environment.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Immunology, Microbiology, Microbial pathogenesis Molecular Biology, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in the following:

    • Strong background in monoclonal antibody research


  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Proven track record of publications in reputable, peer-reviewed scientific journals
  • Experience in laboratory management and mentoring of students
  • Ability to independently design and execute experiments
  • Experience in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills and analytical thinking
  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques related to immunology and microbiology, specifically monoclonal antibody research
  • Ability to work collaboratively and foster a productive research and learning environment
  • Highly organized and with good record keeping skills.
