MEDICAL ASSISTANT / OD TECH

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Summary: Responsible for assisting patients and clinic physicians through the examination process.

Essential duties and responsibilities (3-5 core functions representing 80% of time spent):

1. Complete history, medication input into electronic medical record for OD
2. Send reports to referring physicians from EMR
3. Complete Maia/Octopus/color vision/depth perception testing and chart in EMR
4. Scribe during appointments for OD
5. Escort patients to an appropriate location to begin and check out for OD visit
6. Communicate additional appointment needs and if refraction was completed to front office staff
7. Clean equipment between patients
8. Start up and shut down of equipment each day
9. Patients follow up communication as needed
10. Must wear all the protective equipment required by the department.
11. Must follow all company policies and procedures including departmental safety policies.
12. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications (Minimum education, experience, training, licensure, certification):

• High school diploma or GED.
• 2 years previous experience as an OD Tech or Medical Assistant.
• Preference given to candidates with experience in blind rehabilitation or related field.

Physical Requirements:

Physical requirements of the job:

• Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of forcefrequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
