Under the Direction of the Nurse Manager, and guided by the policies and procedures of Ambulatory Services, the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), provides care to UCSF Department of Women's Health - Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery and Urogynecology along with Urology care at our Berkeley Outpatient Center. The LVN will play a critical role in the patient experience including optimizing clinic flow, providing in and outreach to patients and working collaboratively with the team to create a patient centered environment.

In collaboration with the physician and nursing staff, the LVN has the clinical responsibility for maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff, and for daily operations. The LVN is a team player who works closely with others and who is flexible in dealing with the changing priorities. The LVN a self-reliant individual who synthesizes knowledge of practice operations in order to problem-solve, prioritize and facilitate complex transactions in the course of his/her daily activities. The LVN is responsible for administering medications, assisting with a variety of procedures, practicing basic assessment of patient medical and psycho-social needs, participating in patient education, and assisting medical providers in a variety of ways. All components of nursing care will be individualized to meet the patient's physiological and psychosocial developmental level and needs.

The Licensed Vocational Nurse has excellent oral and written communication skills; can work well with minimal supervision in a complex, fast pace and challenging environment. The LVN is sensitive to the needs of patients, staff, and providers at all times. This position makes a difference for patients in an outpatient care unit by providing excellent nursing care and customer service, facilitating and ensuring the accuracy of the information flow between medical, hospital staff and departments to maximize unit efficiency. The LVN consistently projects a professional and courteous demeanor and as well as demonstrating UCSF's PRIDE values and the AIDET fundamentals of communication in all patient care and stakeholder interactions.

The LVN will utilize computer skills in ApeX and other UCSF computerized programs. This individual supports the standards of the policies and procedures of the practice, and is responsible for maintaining current knowledge of pharmacology and competency in modes of administration, and complies with all Ambulatory Services and Medical Center policies and procedures for infection control, safety, and administrative and clinical practice. The LVN is required to adhere to the Telephone and House Standards as adopted by the Medical Center.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $43.00 - $53.94 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications


  • At least one to two years experience as an LVN
  • Any work experience working within Berkeley Outpatient Specialty Care
  • Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience working in a fast-paced clinic setting

Preferred Qualifications


  • Urogynecology/Urology or Obstetrics & Gynecology, experience/knowledge
  • LEAN methodology
  • Ambulatory/outpatient care experience

License/Certification


  • Active Licensed Vocational Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
