Job Summary

The Certified Athletic Trainer performs duties as an athletic trainer in a designated school(s) for a predetermined number of hours per week. The Athletic Trainer facilitates, guides, and trains group and individual exercise training sessions, as well as works on a variety of special projects. The Athletic Trainer collaborates closely with the Medical and Physical Therapy Staff of the Sports Medicine Center for Young Athletes (SMCYA). This position requires considerable evening and weekend coverage and is also expected to provide Friday night coverage during the fall football season.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $69,700 - $149,900 (Annual Rate).

Required Qualifications


  • Graduate from an accredited school with at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field. (Starting 2020 Masters of Science required for Certification)
  • Remains current with Health Learning Stream modules and additional training deemed essential for staff of SMCYA.
  • Six (6) months of experience preferred. (NATA) required. Current Health Provider BLS certification required.
  • Ability to pass minimum physical demands assessment for athletic trainers.
  • Knowledge of care, prevention, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
  • Knowledge of safety awareness and proper posture, body mechanics and lifting techniques.
  • Ability to utilizes ergonomic/adaptive equipment. Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel). Ability to use electronic medical records.

Physical Requirements:
  • Sit: Up to 3 hours/day
  • Stand/Walk: 6-8 hours
  • Bend/Stoop: Up to 3 hours
  • Reach: Up to 6 hours
  • Rep Use of UE/Grasp: Up to 6 hrs
  • Lift/Push/Pull: 25 lbs, over 25# with assistance or equipment
  • This job requires the ability to hear alarms clients and/or instruction.
  • The ability to see accurately from 20 inches to 20-ft. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential function of this position.
