Summary

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Freight Coordinator (Aluminum & Steel) is responsible for a broad range of Warehousing operations involving company resources, in accordance with pre-established requirements and specifications. This includes packing custom-made products and parts in standard or custom-made boxes or crates, routing outbound and inbound freight to assure receipt or delivery, and assisting in maintaining packaging and shipping standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This list of functions and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  1. Operate a variety of fork truck / material handling equipment to fulfill internal and external customer orders.
  2. Locate and retrieve parts/products from inventory, storage, or production departments.
  3. Build crates and boxes according to specified dimensions or build non-standard crates following generally accepted methods.
  4. May select packing materials from stock, or package parts while verifying shipments for correct parts and quantity. Labels boxes per order informational and record special handling instructions.
  5. Communicate between the Warehouse department and other internal and external customers.
  6. Assist in developing packaging standards for standard and custom products.
  7. Use the computer to accurately perform Warehouse, Shipping, Inventory, and/or Receiving transactions.
  8. Coordinate and prepare documents shipments.
  9. Route outbound and inbound freight to assure receipt or delivery.
  10. Load/unload incoming raw material from open and closed trucks using overhead crane or forklift.
  11. Process LTL and Dedicated truck orders as needed; may order trucks while maintaining a business professional relationship with drivers.
  12. Process freight claims with carriers for losses, damages, product overages, or shortages
  13. Provide working knowledge to the warehousing operations, including customer order fulfillment, receiving, inventory control, and shipping functions to reduce costs and increase reliability.
  14. Maintain an organized work environment based on 5-S principles; Sort, Scrub, Standardize, Set in Order and Sustain.
  15. Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  16. Maintains equipment and communicate potential equipment malfunctions with appropriate parties.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  1. Level of education usually acquired through completion of high school.
  2. 3+ years of related experience
  3. Trouble-shooting Aptitude


Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Ability to accurately scan labor, verify labor, and provide for corrections.
  2. Ability to-when applicable-operate overhead crane, aerial lift, forklift, hand trucks, etc.
  3. Ability to measure (using ruler, tapes) and count accurately.
  4. Ability to identify material sizes, lengths, dimensions, metal type, etc.
  5. Ability to read and write English, follow verbal and written instructions and perform basic math; including adding, subtracting and multiplying fractions.
  6. Ability to work independently and prioritize work with available supervision.


Physical Demands

The physical requirements outlined below are essential for successful job performance. While fulfilling job duties, employees frequently need to be on-site to manage projects. Additionally, employees must regularly engage in activities such as sitting, standing, walking, speaking, and listening. Occasionally, employees may need to bend, stoop, balance, and move within the facility. Specific vision abilities necessary for this role include close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Furthermore, employees may occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to fifty pounds.
