The Engineering Division at Berkeley Lab is seeking a skilled Mechanical CAD Administrator 3 to provide advanced CAD support for engineering teams. This role involves managing software deployments, ensuring system compatibility, optimizing model performance, and maintaining the Mechanical component library in the PLM system. The position requires broad experience to handle complex development and operational tasks, support CAD applications and infrastructure, and creatively resolve technical challenges.

What You Will Do:



  • Provide expert-level support for Mechanical CAD applications and resolve complex issues via ticketing system.
  • Manage CAD software deployment, ensuring cross-platform compatibility and performance.
  • Develop templates, custom symbols, and documentation standards for consistent project output.
  • Recommend and implement software improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Automate engineering workflows using scripts and tools.
  • Train staff on CAD usage and serve as a liaison with other departments.
  • Analyze complex issues, exercise sound judgment, and lead or coordinate team efforts as needed.
  • Offer innovative solutions for managing a large, complex IT infrastructure.



Additional Responsibilities as Needed:



  • Collaborate with the CAD team to optimize and customize the PLM experience.
  • Develop data storage solutions and integrate third-party applications into PLM systems.
  • Support QA standards, template parameterization, and server maintenance.
  • Drive automation and process improvements to boost efficiency.



What is Required:



  • 8+ years of experience with a Bachelor's, 6+ with a Master's, or equivalent work experience.
  • Expert in Creo Parametric and familiar with other CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
  • Skilled in troubleshooting complex software issues and optimizing CAD workflows.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Experienced in enhancing model performance and maintaining PLM component libraries.
  • Proficient in analyzing workflows to improve productivity and resolve bottlenecks.
  • Knowledgeable in software deployment, version control, and dependency management.
  • Experienced with Windows and Mac OS, large assembly modeling, and CAD tool development.
  • Skilled in scripting for automation and maintaining PLM part libraries.
  • Capable of independent judgment in solving critical technical problems.



Desired Qualifications:



  • Experienced in managing electrical documents and implementing/upgrading PLM systems.
  • Skilled in Requirements Management and Unix/Linux server services.
  • Proven ability to manage servers and services for maximum uptime.



Notes:



  • This is a full-time 2-year, term appointment with the possibility of extension or conversion to Career appointment based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.
  • The expected salary for this position is $123,000.00 - $150,000.00, which fits into the full salary of $109,152.00 - $184,200.00 annually depending upon the candidate's skills, knowledge, and abilities, including education, certifications, and years of experience.

  • This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule with at least 3 days per week onsite - a combination of teleworking and performing work on site at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA. Work schedules are dependent on business needs. Individuals working a hybrid schedule must reside within 150 miles of Berkeley Lab. Starting May 7, a REAL ID or other acceptable form of identification is required to access Berkeley Lab sites (for more information click here).
