RWE Clean Energy is looking for a strong candidate to lead our BESS Technology Optimization team as the Director, BESS Technology Optimization. The Director of BESS Technology Optimization will be responsible for managing a technical team to shape a product development mindset and ensure utility-scale energy storage projects are built with state-of-the-art technology, design features, and able to fulfill dispatch and use case for evolving market conditions.

Role Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of circa 5-6 engineers and shape the team product development vision in the areas of battery, inverters, integration, design features and dispatch capability
  • Liaison with other teams in Engineering, Development, Commercial, Procurement, Program Management, and Project Execution to ensure the vision is aligned with RWECE execution strategy.
  • Shape the vision and build a strong link between dispatch capability and implementation of dispatching strategy building a strong cooperation with RWESTA.
  • Ensure the team adopts scalable and effective design engineering processes and continuous improvement feedback
  • Lead detailed technical analysis and technical relations with suppliers providing recommendation for product improvements.
  • Ensure the team balances a development mindset with engineering excellence and financial diligence, focusing on building reliable and competitive designs
  • Assist in managing vendor relationships during technology scouting
  • Lead technical assessment and provide technical guidance to procurement for suppliers' selection process
  • Work closely with the BESS Project Engineering team to ensure cohesion across the project development cycle

Job Requirements and Experiences

  • Master's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university preferred
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in renewable energy technologies
  • Proven experience with battery storage technologies with understanding of battery products and use cases
  • Proven product management and product development experience
  • Experience leading a team of engineers and technical resources and ability to drive high performance and cultivate talent
  • Proven ability to empathize, build relationships, and effectively communicate with people from a diverse set of backgrounds
  • This position is an office-based role with some travel and visits to other RWECE offices and field locations

Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in California or New York City is $min - $max . The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. RWE considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's education & work experience, training & certifications, and key skills as well as market and business considerations at the time of the offer.
