The diagnostic imaging internship program at North Carolina State University is designed to allow the intern to gain experience in all aspects of diagnostic imaging and be a competitive candidate to apply for residency programs in diagnostic imaging. The internship consists of clinical experience, teaching in form of rounds and participation in all learning opportunities for residents including journal club, known case conference and house officer seminars. The intern may attend a formal Physics of Diagnostic Imaging course at
UNC.
Clinical experience will be gained in performing ultrasound examinations, and evaluation and reporting of diagnostic imaging studies such as radiographs, Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Nuclear Scintigraphy. The radiology service at North Carolina State University has a high case load, and the trainee will be involved with a large number of small and large animal diagnostic imaging studies. There are daily radiology clinic rounds, weekly journal club activities, and mock examinations. Close supervision by and interaction with board-certified radiologists are maintained daily throughout the program.
The program is supported by diagnostic imaging equipment including two Siemens Multix Top Ceiling mounted radiographic units with Canon flat panel digital systems, a Genoray Oscar Prime 15 Flat Panel Detector C-arm, A GE
IGS 530 Biplanar Fluoroscopy /Digital Antiography unit with Flat Panel Digital Detector with Tomographic Capabilities. Large animal radiography includes ceiling mounted x-ray tubes with Canon digital flat panels and a MinX portable generator. Three Canon Aplio ultrasound machines are available for small animal imaging and multiple ultrasound machines are used in large animal imaging. CT imaging includes a Siemens Perspective 64 Multislice helical scanner and a Samsung BodyTom 32-slice portable Equine CT. MR imaging includes a 3.0T Siemens Skyra MR suite for small animal and equine imaging.
A North Carolina Veterinary license can be obtained after arrival through our institutional employment licensing agreement. Professional liability insurance is supplied with our program. |
