Job Summary

Responsible for planning and overseeing the Diane Ramy Faulconer Simulation Teaching and Research (STAR) Centers in the Modesto Maidique and Biscayne Bay campuses. Formulates policies and strategies for the STAR Center operations. Directs critical academic support services through an administrative team including Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialists, Simulation Education Coordinators, Facilitators, and support specialists. Accountable for managing and communicating long-term direction and working on achieving the Center's goals. The individual will report directly to the Associate Dean of Administration

  • Oversees all day-to-day operations of both STAR Centers, ensuring efficient scheduling, resource allocation, and equipment functionality.
  • Manages and oversees the staff within the various departments of the STAR Center including Education, Operations, and Information Technology.
  • Manages and oversees the reporting and performance review of the STAR Center's varied accreditation entities.
  • Develops and implements a strategic plan that aligns with the university's academic mission and advances the STAR Center's reputation as a leader in healthcare simulation.
  • Assess long-term needs and establish objectives for the simulation center.
  • Manages the semester long schedule of activities for all academic users of the STAR Center from inside the Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing and Health Sciences and outside the college.
  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement through professional development opportunities and performance management.
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises contingent faculty (facilitators) to support simulation exercises.
  • Develops and implements new initiatives that includes simulation courses and auxiliary revenue operations to address complex support services in the STAR Center.
  • Actively involved in the professional development of facilitators and educators that deliver healthcare simulation experiences to learners.
  • Leads and mentors a simulation education team within the STAR Center to assure a valid process of simulation scenario reviews and updates to meet professional guidelines, community standard of care, and proper curricular integration.
  • Advances the reputation and accessibility of the STAR Center and develops relationships with external partners.
  • Develops and implements procedures, plans and goals for the STAR Center that leads to more efficient operation of simulation sessions to the college.
  • Ensures compliance with FIU policies, procedures, practices and programs, and with federal, state and local legal/regulatory standards.
  • Supports and coaches professional and support staff, establishes goals, identifies professional development opportunities, and evaluates performance. Directly oversee the responsibilities of the support specialists within the Center.
  • Collaborates with the college administration to ensure that the Center meets all accreditation and compliance standards outlined by each discipline served.
  • Communicates expectations, monitors performance, and provides feedback consistently across areas of responsibility.
  • Oversees scheduling and delivery of simulation sessions for all users of the STAR Center.

  • Develops and manages the STAR Center's budget, ensuring responsible resource allocation and financial sustainability. Lead and execute proposals to secure funding and contribute to the STAR Center's auxiliary budget.
  • Coordinates the planning and finalizing of studies, records and reports of center equipment and supplies procurement and usage.
  • Responsible for meeting the goals and objectives related to the academic mission of the university.
  • Cultivates and maintains strong relationships with external partners to enhance the STAR Center's visibility and accessibility.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and eight (8) years of appropriate experience, or Master's degree and six (6) years of appropriate experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in healthcare simulation, academic administration, or a related field.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, teams, and complex operations.
  • Certification in healthcare simulation (e.g., CHSE, CHSOS).
