Basic Function

HF Sinclair is seeking a Senior Manager, Sales and Use Tax in Dallas,TX who will be responsible to manage multiple tax functions such as sales and use tax tax systems.

Job Duties

  • Directs, manages and organizes sales and use tax activities and ensures all sales and use tax returns are filed accurately and timely in compliance with federal, state and local tax laws (monthly, quarterly, annually).
  • Manages tax professionals responsible for preparing sales and use tax returns, and establishes and maintains relationships with industry tax experts and outside consultants.
  • Manages Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and maintenance over sales and use tax matters.
  • Establishes tax objectives and assignments; participates in tax planning strategies.
  • Develops, modifies and executes Company tax policies.
  • Consults on issues surrounding maintenance of billing system tax components, including customer profile, applicable tax rates, product taxability, and jurisdiction of activity, general ledger account setups, tax matrix and calculations, new tax code setup and matrix mapping to petroleum products for HFS, midstream and affiliates
  • Initiates, reviews and prepares , as needed, sales and use tax analysis related to general ledger account reconciliations for HFS, midstream and affiliates.
  • Oversees tax research for sales and use taxes.
  • Stays current on changes in sales and use tax laws and identifies planning opportunities to minimize state sales and use tax liabilities.
  • Oversees contract approval process for all relevant sales and purchase contracts.
  • Manages work plans and project schedules for assigned projects and coordinates assignment of project personnel.
  • Manages assigned projects and makes recommendations for best-solution approaches using a combination of people training, process updates and/or technology changes.



Special assignments, projects or tasks assigned to the employee by Tax Management, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

Experience

A minimum of 15 years of professional work experience handling sales and use tax and accounting matters. Minimum seven years detailed working knowledge in tax reporting process, state tax procedures, and awareness of recent tax changes in sales and use tax required.

Preferred Experience

Public accounting or energy industry experience preferred.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree, preferably in accounting or finance, is required.

Preferred Education

Master's Degree in Accounting and/or CPA designation preferred.

Required Skills

Ability to perform complex accounting analysis, including but not limited to account entries and adjustments.Advanced skills required in MS Excel (i.e. advanced calculations and formulas). Experience with accounting software, and awareness of recent tax changes required. Broad understanding of accounting practices and procedures.Advanced skills in OneSource Indirect Tax Determination including creating custom rules and authorities. Ability to effectively communicate with others, in writing or verbally, intermediate to advanced reading and writing skills, and ability to perform moderate to advanced mathematical calculations.

Preferred Skill

Working knowledge of SAP.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

Responsible for the direct supervision of employees. Manages projects and assignments and acts as a resource for direct reports and less experienced personnel.

Work Conditions

Office based with up to 10% travel by land and air required. Subject to varying road and weather conditions. On occasion may work in a refinery based environment that may require occasional work out of doors, subject to varying weather conditions.
