Job Purpose:

Analyzes and evaluates required financial information for loans managed within assigned portfolio. Assists Business Banking Portfolio Managers with credit transactions and overall portfolio tasks, including but not limited to, financial statement collection, financial results spreading, analyses, risk rating validation, annual reviews, and general credit underwriting, monitoring, and early stage collection efforts.

Job Duties:

  • Analyzes and evaluates required financial information for loans managed within assigned portfolio.
  • Assists Business Banking Portfolio Managers with credit transactions and overall portfolio tasks, including but not limited to, financial statement tracking and collection, financial results spreading, analyses, risk rating validation, annual reviews, and general credit underwriting, monitoring, and early stage collection efforts.
  • Directly communicates with commercial clients regarding credit events and actions, including but not limited to, required financial statement collection, covenant compliance, defaults, loan renewals, criticized asset reviews, annual or shelf reviews.
  • Reviews loan documents and monitors loan payment histories, past dues, loan collateral and inspections, monetary compliance/defaults.
  • Performs guarantor and business financial analyses to identify financial trends, assess and validate risk ratings, identifying early warning signs of deteriorating loans; timely escalates defaults, potential issues, risks, or 'red flags' suggesting elevated loan or portfolio risk; collaborates to devise appropriate credit actions to mitigate said risk.
  • Orders and reviews credit bureaus, background checks, and other third party reports as may be warranted.
  • Tracks and tests covenant requirements and manages internal and external/borrower follow up steps (waivers, reservation of rights, etc.) for assigned portfolio.
  • Devises, negotiates, underwrites and executes loan renewals and modifications designed to proactively manage risk and maintain asset quality.
  • Assists Business Banking Portfolio Managers with defining borrowers and guarantors, deal structure, credit terms and conditions, financial reporting, covenant structure and in preparation of written credit memoranda to memorialize the same.
  • Collaborates with internal partners such as the documentation preparation and funding team and Loan Operations to close approved transactions.
  • Provides timely and accurate reporting to management and assists management in monitoring and following-up on monthly reporting, including but not limited to, collateral or documentation exception, delinquency, financial statement, financial covenant tracking, borrowing base, and maturity reports.
  • Partners with Commercial Collections on defaulted lines and troubled credits.
  • Focuses on execution within defined credit lending policies and procedures..
  • Monitors market and industry specific segment trends, continuous learning to keep pace with ever-changing market dynamics.
  • Manages internal and external resources and delivers on our core values to support a high level of customer experience and reduce attrition while effectively controlling expenses.
  • Will perform special projects as assigned.

Education, Job Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Associate degree or equivalent experience.
  • Business credit, underwriting, or portfolio monitoring experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with U.S. Small Business Administration loan programs and other federal, state, and municipal alternative lending programs preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the following:
    1. Commercial Lending
    2. Credit approvals
    3. Loan documentation
    4. Collateral valuation
  • Analytically minded - ability to evaluate financial statements, interpret results and reach conclusions.
  • Ability to work independently and to handle and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized and attentive to detail.
  • Proven ability to exercise discretion and sound judgment.
  • Ability to understand and apply bank's credit policy.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable banking laws, regulatory requirements and credit/risk management practices.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate viewpoint and make independent decisions.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft suite of products and commercial loan origination system software platforms. nCino experience a plus.
  • Some travel required; must have a valid driver's license for travel throughout Peoples Bank footprint of offices.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Associate degree or equivalent experience.
