POSITION SPECIFICS

The Residence Life Officeis looking for a dynamic and energetic individual to join the Central Staff team. Come be a part of why we are Penn State!

The Assistant Directoris a vital part of the team in helping to continue to vision and mission of the department. They are responsible to an Associate Director of Residence Life for supervising a staff of up to five Coordinators, as well as overseeing the daily activities of a residence hall area housing up to7,000 students.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Respond to and follow up on student conflicts and crisis situations

  • Share on-call responsibilities as needed

  • Oversee the area's student accountability process and case facilitation

  • Supervise a portion of the summer school program or the overnight new student orientation program

  • Manage departmental projects

  • Assist with several centralized tasks: area/department newsletter, professional staff training, diversity and equity initiatives, social media/digital marketing, admissions and print media, podcasting and online education, emergency planning, and technology needs

  • Advise the area's student government

  • Liaise with campus partners

  • Depending on the location, implement programs and activities for a variety of environments, including first-year experience, sororities, academic/theme-focused, apartments, graduate students, and family living

The successful candidate must possess an understanding of college student development theory as well as excellent communication skills, writing skills, and supervisory experience. In addition, excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask, and outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with other departments are necessary.

This is NOTa live-in position; however, it is required to be part of an on-call duty rotation and live within 15 miles and 20 minutes of campus.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Master's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience Required Certifications: None

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $51,000.00 - $74,000.00.
