The Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented and strategic individual to work on our Finance team as a Manager of Financial Reporting. In this role, you will report to the Director of Financial Reporting and be responsible for the preparation and review of financial statements, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial analysis for multiple reporting entities. You will lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, oversee staff accountants, and ensure compliance with US GAAP, NAIC Statutory Accounting Principles, and regulatory requirements. This position involves collaborating with external auditors and supporting internal controls and process improvements to drive efficiencies.

Key Result Areas

  • Prepare and review complex schedules, reconciliations, and journal entries, ensuring accuracy and compliance in areas such as premiums, loss reserves, reinsurance, income taxes, and consolidations.
  • Oversee accounting staff, review their work, and ensure adherence to company policies, accounting standards, and internal controls.
  • Support the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.
  • Perform financial analysis of statement fluctuations and budget-to-actual comparisons.
  • Generate and review timely financial statements for executive leadership, boards, regulators, and audit committees.
  • Create and review reporting packages for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance with regulatory filings and tax requirements.
  • Collaborate with external auditors and tax professionals, preparing exhibits and supporting audit activities.
  • Document business processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls.
  • Conduct technical accounting research and apply appropriate principles.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Manage special projects as needed.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or relevant field
  • 5+ years of financial accounting experience, with a focus on reporting and analysis
  • Experience reviewing team members' work and managing staff
  • Prior experience in the insurance or financial services industry preferred
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP
  • Advanced Excel skills required
  • Knowledge of NAIC Statutory Accounting Principles is a plus
  • 3+ years of public accounting experience preferred
  • CPA certification is a plus but not required
