The Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical individual to work on our Finance team as a Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting. In this role, you will report to the Manager, Financial Reporting, and be responsible for preparing journal entries, reconciliations, financial statements, reporting packages, and conducting financial analysis for multiple reporting entities. You will support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, collaborate with external auditors, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. This position requires strong technical accounting skills, advanced Excel proficiency, and excellent communication abilities.

Key Result Areas

  • Prepare intermediate to complex schedules, reconciliations, and journal entries, ensuring accuracy and compliance in areas like premiums, loss reserves, reinsurance, income taxes, and consolidation eliminations.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.
  • Perform financial analysis, including fluctuation analysis and budget-to-actual comparisons.
  • Generate timely and accurate financial statements for executive leadership, audit committees, boards, and regulators (including Departments of Insurance).
  • Collaborate with external auditors, prepare exhibits, and support financial statement audits.
  • Create reporting packages for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring regulatory compliance for financial filings and tax returns.
  • Document business processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls.
  • Perform special projects as needed.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or relevant field
  • 3+ years of financial accounting experience
  • Experience reviewing the work of others
  • Solid understanding of US GAAP
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience with financial reporting and reconciliations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the insurance or financial services industry
  • Knowledge of NAIC Statutory Accounting Principles
  • Public accounting experience preferred, but not required
  • CPA designation preferred, but not required
