POSITION SPECIFICS

Penn State's Department of Education Policy Studies seeks applications for a Post-doctoral Teaching Scholar who will teach undergraduate, masters-level and doctoral-level courses in education policy and leadership. The successful candidate will also contribute to the research and scholarly environment in the department and participate in all facets of the department. This post-doctoral position has a particular focus on (1) teaching undergraduate and graduate courses (residential and/or World Campus) (2) collaborating with faculty to submit research grants and (3) writing for publication in areas relevant to the department's disciplinary and scholarly foci.

The successful candidate should possess a PhD in Education Policy Studies and Leadership. The candidate must have demonstrated ability as a researcher; and must have shown evidence of professional growth and scholarship within their discipline.Candidates should have a strong background in educational equity, gender, women, and sexuality studies, African American Studies, or related areas. Candidates also should have experience mentoring students and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills and background:

Beyond research and teaching, the candidate must be deeply invested in bridging academic inquiry with societal change. Candidates must also be willing to support student engagement and professional development through mentorship, collaborative research initiatives, and community-building efforts. Candidates must have a scholarly background and/or training in the following areas:

  • Comparative Race, Gender, & Sexuality Issues in Education

  • College Student Sense of Belonging

  • Student Identity Development

  • Student Success

  • Public Policy in American Education

  • Spatial Temporality in Education

  • Critical & Embodied Theories

  • Qualitative Research Methods

  • Oral History

  • Critical Policy Analysis

Candidates must have documented experience teaching the following courses:

  • Introduction to Education Policy and Analysis

  • Identity and Difference in Education

  • Intro to Diversity & Equity (Graduate)

  • Diversity in Higher Education (Graduate)

Preferred skills and background:

Interdisciplinary scholar, educator, and higher education professional whose work sits at the intersections of Education Policy, Black (Queer) Studies, Cultural Studies, Gender & Sexuality Studies, and institutional culture, offering research and insights that are both theoretically and practically impactful. In addition, candidates should demonstrate the potential for publishing, presenting their research at national, and international conferences; have demonstrated intellectual leadership on topics such as belonging, targeted student support models, and counternarratives in higher education research; and actively engaged in public scholarship and digital humanities.
