Job Description

The custodial performs custodial and maintenance duties in the two buildings Student Union and the Atterbury Student Success Center: troubleshoots, performs minor repairs, implements setup and teardown for a variety of campus and community events, works closely with employees and the public to meet the custodial needs of the area and resolves problems to ensure efficient and safe operations.

  • Perform a wide variety of custodial and maintenance duties in order to provide a clean, orderly and safe environment and perform related work as required.
  • Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform duties in the care and cleaning of the Student Union/Atterbury Student Success Center buildings: sweep floors, empty trash, dust, mop, clean drinking fountains and windows as well as other related duties as assigned.
  • Clean assigned rooms, halls, entrances, stairways, and elevators.
  • Auto-scrub floors and prepare for waxing then apply wax, and buff floors.
  • Prepare rooms for meetings by setting up chairs, tables and necessary equipment.
  • Vacuum, shampoo, spot clean carpets and furniture, polish metal and clean inside of windows.
  • Provide written requests for custodial supplies as needed.
  • Report all damaged furniture and equipment to the Building Manager.
  • May be assigned work in areas requiring special uses for disinfectants, cleaning techniques and sanitation procedures.
  • Uses proper chemicals when needed that meets safety and university guidelines.
  • Operates power equipment such as carpet extractors, pressure washer, T3, etc.
  • Perform building security duties such as locking and unlocking doors, turning lights on or off, etc.
  • May provide support for emergency responses and/or large moves/events.
  • Provides supervision for our student employees.
  • Perform other preventative maintenance and related duties as assigned.

Supervision Received
Custodians will be supervised by the respective Building Supervisor of the assigned building, Student Union or the Atterbury Student Success Center.

Shift

4:30 p.m. - 1:00 a.m., Tuesday through Saturday

Minimum Qualifications

* Ability to read and write
* General knowledge of methods for cleaning equipment and buildings
* Good physical coordination and mechanical aptitude sufficient to perform assigned duties

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience in general custodial or housekeeping.
* Experience in hospitality and/or event preparation.

Anticipated Hiring Range

$16.00 per hour, eligible for $0.70 shift differential for qualifying shifts (see HR-213 for more information).
