Position Summary

The Columbia Center for Translational Immunology (CCTI) at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) is seeking a highly motivated and talented technician to join our team. The main topic of this research is the understanding of the biology associated with T cell function in the context of cancer and autoimmunity. We collaborate closely with renowned scientists and physicians across multiple departments at CUIMC spanning research in cancers, cancer therapy, immunology, autoimmunity, transplantation, inflammation, infectious diseases, and others. Primary responsibilities of the Technician B are to assist laboratory members in the conduct of experiments as directed by the principle investigator (PI).

Responsibilities



  • Collaborate with the lab manager to ensure smooth operation and maintenance of the research laboratory.
  • Prepare samples and reagents, prepare and manage experiments, and perform routine data processing.
  • Assist with animal treatments and surgical procedures.
  • Operate and maintain lab equipment: tissue culture hood, incubators, centrifuges, PCR, and fluorescent microscopy.
  • Maintain a detailed, up-to-date, and accurate record of samples, reagents, and instrument tuning and QC. Maintain and organize inventory.
  • Assist with data analysis and presentation.
  • Assist in the development of new assays, methods, and reagents.
  • Contribute to building a culture that embraces scientific excellence, integrity, efficiency, teamwork, and continuous learning and improvement.
  • Perform other related duties necessary to the functioning of the laboratory and research projects.


Minimum Qualifications




  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or physics or related science or equivalent in education, training and experience.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with attention to detail and quality.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Previous experience in a basic science laboratory.
  • Experience with animal work.


Other Requirements



  • Candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to a final offer of employment being made.
  • Participation in the medical surveillance program.
  • Ability to work with laboratory animals.
  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements.
