Overview

As a Technical Representative for 84 Lumber, you will play a key role in driving sales growth by proactively promoting and selling our products and services to both new and existing clients-primarily outside of store locations. This position focuses on building strong customer relationships, understanding client needs, and delivering tailored solutions. You will serve as a critical link between our production team and the customer, ensuring project success from concept to completion. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the Plant Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain a strong network of leads to identify and secure new sales opportunities.

  • Engage with customers to understand their product and service needs; recommend appropriate solutions.

  • Present and demonstrate product features and benefits tailored to customer requirements.

  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through regular follow-ups and proactive communication.

  • Resolve post-sale issues efficiently and professionally.

  • Maintain strong relationships with existing and past clients; communicate updates on new products, services, and offerings.

  • Accurately document all sales activities, including calls, quotes, orders, lost business, and customer feedback.

  • Grow and manage a personal book of business while consistently seeking out new opportunities.

  • Read and interpret blueprints to create accurate material take-offs and estimates.

  • Source and coordinate special-order materials as needed.

  • Provide layout support and truss drawings in coordination with design and production teams.

  • Address customer inquiries and concerns with professionalism and timely resolution.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Excellent organizational abilities with a keen attention to detail.

  • Effective analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Experience with MiTek, either estimating or designing.


Responsibilities

Builds and maintains a network of sources from which to identify new sales leads.

Communicates with customers and leads to identify and understand their product or service needs; identifies and suggests products and services to meet those needs.

Demonstrates the functions and utility of products or services to customers based on their needs.

Ensures customer satisfaction through ongoing communication and relationship management; resolves any issues that may arise post-sale.

Maintains communication with existing and previous customers, alerting them of new products, services, and enhancements that may be of interest.

Maintains detailed reports of sales activities including calls, orders, sales, lost business, and any customer or vendor relationship problems.


Qualifications

Create and continually grow book of business and acquire new customers.

Create material estimates/read blueprints.

Source special order material.

Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers.

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to function in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment.

Provide layouts and truss drawings.
