Job Overview

The College of Allied Health Sciences Office of Student Affairs is searching for a full-time Assistant Director of Student Advising to assist in leading the administrative and operational activities of the advising office with a focus on student success.

Hybrid work permitted in accordance with UC policy. Typically, about two (2) days per week.

Essential Functions

  • Assist with the direction of an advising office with primary responsibilities for select day-to-day operations and administrative management in which decisions and quality of execution have significant impact on internal and external relations.
  • Advise a caseload of current and prospective students about how to meet their educational, professional, and personal goals.
  • Develop, lead, and coordinate staff development and training related to academic advising; Orient, train, and mentor staff.
  • Lead student success assessment efforts as they relate to First-Year Experience, Academic Advising, CAHS/UC Retention, and Success Coaching. Monitor and publicize outcomes. Suggest customized improvements to increase student retention rates and overall success.
  • Orientation oversight and alignment with FYE goals; Learning Community configurations and enrollment management.
  • Serve as the CAHS College Conduct Administrator.
  • Provide direct and/or indirect supervision of staff/student associate (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
  • Develop long-range plans and strategies to achieve unit goals for areas of responsibility. Monitor and achieve established goals.
  • Recommend, implement, and interpret internal rules, policies, procedures, controls, and manage processes to advance service levels.

Additional Essential Functions

  • Attend meetings on behalf of the director; consult with director on major policy changes affecting other departments; authority to grant exceptions. May function as the Director in his/her absence, as required.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with departments/units regarding advising efforts that enrich the student experience. Serve as liaison to the registrar's office, admissions, or other enrollment functions.
  • Maintain and stay abreast of trends in advising, advising technologies, and changes in academic programs and transition requirements. Assist with program recommendations, communication, and technology training/implementation.
  • Serve on various university, division, and departmental committees.
  • May teach one or more college level courses.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.

Required Education

Master's Degree

Required Experience

Three (3) years of academic advising or student achievement experience.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to present to groups of all sizes
  • Proficiency in basic software including Microsoft: Word, Excel, Power Point, Teams, Outlook
  • Proficiency in advising related software tools including Slate, Catalyst, CaRT, Inspire
  • Proven track record of using technology to improve efficiency in an advising setting
