Job Purpose:

The Ann Arbor Lab Technician II performs basic facility checks/maintenance, vehicle testing and documentation required to ensure Emissions Compliance to government regulations, enabling the sale of Honda and Acura vehicles.

Key Accountabilities:



  • Prepare and conduct official and in-house tailpipe and evaporative emissions testing for certification, durability, and in-house verification programs in Denver and Ann Arbor.
  • Complete documentation (test reports, etc.) accurately and on time. Update draft revisions for manuals/forms/check sheets.
  • Performing daily/weekly (and assist with monthly) checks on equipment to ensure compliant operation.
  • Track inventories on consumables (parts, fuel, etc.).
  • Basic automotive troubleshooting and assisting with troubleshooting equipment.



Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:



  • High School diploma or GED or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in automobile industry with 1+ years in emissions testing desired
  • Extensive automobile-related hands-on experience in: valve clearance check/adjustment, emissions system diagnostics, catalytic converter and exhaust system modification and replacement, timing check, OBD diagnostics, fuel system inspections, troubleshooting and repairs, brake inspection, service and repair, vehicle electrical system diagnostics and repair, soldering, welding (desirable), general tools including saw, air tools, etc.
  • Work experience with official EPA/CARB tailpipe/evaporative emissions test procedures; chassis dynamometer calibration, setup, and operation; vehicle coastdown and roadload derivation.
  • Emissions analyzer equipment operation.



Working Conditions:



  • Physical Requirements: able to lift 60lbs, able to push 5000lb vehicles with others, move gas cylinder bottles by hand, move fuel full 55-gallon drums by dolly, able to work underneath vehicle.
  • Work Environment: must be able to perform tests at high or low ambient conditions, drive vehicles for long periods of time.
  • Travel: <10%
  • Necessary OT: must be able to work OT to complete tests sequences when something goes wrong and extends testing
