Position Summary/ Department Summary:
The Division of Adolescent/Young Adult Medicine is seeking a Clinical Research Assistant I to work with faculty researcher Lydia Shrier, MD, MPH on her ongoing research about adolescent/young adult cannabis use within the Center for Adolescent Behavioral Health Research (CABHRe). As a CRA-I, this person will be responsible for supporting an array of research activities on a new study funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), including screening, consenting, and recruitment of participants and implementation of any other study support activities. This position is full-time and expected to span 1 year (approximately Sept 2025 to Aug 2026) with the possibility to extend.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Consents and recruits participants for research studies through survey administration, personal interviews in-person or remotely, and/or written communications. Please note that this requires some evening and weekend availability.
  • Serves as liaison to the participants in the research studies, guiding and advising them throughout each phase of the study.
  • Develops materials seen and used by research participants (e.g., designing recruitment advertisements and programming study surveys).
  • Manages study data and documentation, including completed surveys, informed consent forms, study tracking logs, and staff training logs.
  • Helps to coordinate members of the Boston Children's Hospital study team and their collaborators to ensure rigorous study implementation.
  • Performs literature searches, assists with data entry/cleaning/analysis, and supports scientific manuscript preparation for journal publication on topics related to ongoing research.
  • Assists with Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions and with annual reports and other documents required by grant(s).
  • Manages and supports updating of websites related to CABHRe, making sure they are in compliance with grant-specific and BCH policies, assists with administrative tasks and other projects as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, education, psychology, social sciences, or biological sciences field and relevant work/research experience.

Experience:

  • Experience and interest in adolescent health, public health, psychology, substance use, epidemiology, and statistical methods preferred.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Excellent writing skills are essential.
  • Ability to maintain participant data confidentiality and adhere to study protocol.
  • Experience and comfort using computer applications (Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) (essential), data management tools (REDCap), statistical software (SPSS, etc.), and website management tools (preferred).
  • Ability to take initiative, work without direct supervision, multitask, and work on multiple projects with changing deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
