Lead Property and Construction Underwriting

  • Location: USA - FL - Miami
  • Work Arrangement: Hybrid
  • The salary range for this role is:$124,000 - $186,000

The Opportunity

The purpose of this role is to underwrite Construction Facultative business in LATAM region in accordance with the business plan within set underwriting guidelines, service standards and within individual earned or delegated underwriting authority.. This role involves underwriting complex new businesses, and offering specialist advice. Additionally, the role is responsible for building and maintaining broker relationships, applying technical expertise, contributing to business results, staying informed about industry standards and new product introductions and coaching and mentoring Underwriters and Assistant Underwriters.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the delivery of the annual business plan for the respective business unit by making appropriate decisions.
  • Apply the reinsurance strategy to safeguard the portfolio.
  • Participate in relevant meetings to share and develop strategy, knowledge, and best practices.
  • Positively promote the department, division, and company to maximise brand leverage.
  • Perform underwriting activities following legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met.
  • Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions, and good practice to minimise risk and maximise efficiency.
  • Establish, strengthen, and develop relationships with stakeholders to maximise influence and achieve business objectives.
  • Understand and comply with reinsurance requirements to minimise risk and deliver business plan objectives.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of market dynamics and market cycles to enhance business performance.
  • Maintain expertise and team knowledge through identifying appropriate learning and development activities.

Work Experience:

Preferred Work Experience includes:

  • Moderate experience in underwriting.
  • Established customer/intermediary relationships.
  • Established customer/broker relationships.
  • Bilingual, fluent in Spanish and English.
  • Facultative Reinsurance Business in Latam America and Caribbean Region.
  • Engineering background is a plus.
  • Qualifications:

  • Necessary Qualifications include:

  • Tertiary Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Relevant Underwriting Authority

Compensation Package: The salary range for this role is provided above. The salary offer will be decided based on the role's complexity, its location, and the candidate's professional background, including their education and experience. Beyond the base salary, regular full-time and part-time employees will also be eligible for QBE's annual discretionary bonus plan based on business and individual performance.
