The Population Health Services Organization (PSHO) at Mass General Brigham is charged with the challenge to drive better value for patients across Mass General Brigham. To achieve its goals, PHSO leverages financial and clinical data to examine opportunities, designs and delivers innovative care models using product development and design thinking disciplines, and leverages problem solving, teamwork, and leadership skills to drive ongoing improvement. Digital technologies, such as the electronic health record and data/analytics are critical tools to support improving population health/value-based care. Further, emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence/machine learning and extended reality may help solve pressing needs that cannot be met with currently available platforms and tools.
We are seeking a highly strategic and dynamic Director, Digital Population Health/Value-based Care (VBC) to oversee our population health and value-based care technology initiatives across our health system. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of technological needs and challenges associated with population health and VBC models. This leadership role is crucial for advancing our health system's capabilities in leveraging technology to improve patient outcomes, reduce healthcare costs, and enhance provider and patient satisfaction. The Director will have responsibility for the relationships across MGB required to deliver on the Digital needs to execute the PHSO strategy - including PHSO, Finance, Office of the Chief Medical Officer, the MGB Health Plan, and Digital.
The Director will report to the Chief Medical Information Officer with a dotted line to the Chief Population Health Officer. The individual will have matrixed responsibility over Digital team members from a wide range of Digital teams, to deliver coordinated and efficient program meeting the needs of MGB PHSO/VBC and will have close working relationships with the Chief Technology Officer, Vice President, Digital Patient Experience, and Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive technology strategy that supports population health management and value-based care initiatives
  • Lead the selection, implementation and optimization of technology solutions that align with the goals of PHSO and VBC
  • Member of the PHSO and OCMIO leadership teams
  • Serve as a key leader in strategic discussions and planning with Mass General Brigham senior management regarding future direction of technology to support PHSO/VBC
  • Collaborate with clinical, operations, and Digital teams to ensure the technology solutions are effectively integrated and utilized across the organization
  • Develop and lead governance for PHSO/VBC Digital requests
  • Drive continuous improvement in technology platforms and systems to adapt to changing healthcare regulations and organizational needs
  • Identify new opportunities to drive digital programs into the business and drive results.
  • Build strong relationships with Digital leaders including Chief Technology Officer and Vice President, Digital Patient Experience
  • Continues to evaluate overall strategy and approach, adjusting program and offerings to evolving PHSO/VBC business needs
  • Manages a matrixed team of IT analysts working to support PHSO and VBC projects
  • Motivates, coaches, and consistently provides feedback to staff managed.
  • Promotes adherence of designs to policies and standards, architectural principles, and guidelines
  • Fluent in available program/process management tools, measurement tools, and methodologies to ensure programs are tied to performance metrics
  • Mentors & develops the talent in line with future strategy
  • Provides thought leadership, representing our organization at national and international digital health and innovation conferences and events and with the media
  • Oversees MGB Digital PHSO/VBC operating and capital budgets
  • Ensure prudent fiscal management by creatively leveraging resources to achieve organizational goals within budget constraints
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Master of Health Administration or Master of Business Administration is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of technology experience required, in one or all of the following areas: digital health, digital technology, innovation, healthcare innovation, population health, value-based care, strategy
  • Proven track record in managing technology initiatives in population health management and/or value-based care environments
  • Significant clinical and/or operational leadership experience in a highly complex, integrated health care delivery system.
  • Strong knowledge of Epic electronic health record, including Healthy Planet and Compass Rose modules. Certification preferred.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in a matrixed environment
  • Strong executive presence with experience working closely with and communicating with internal senior leaders, as well as external leaders in health care, industry, and startup communities
  • Sustained track record of successful digital technology implementation and service delivery in complex healthcare organizations
  • Highly organized, fluent with designing and managing a strategic planning model
  • Strategic, analytical thinker

  • Proven leadership and team-building skills
