What does the job involve?
Summary: This occupation requires the planning, layout, development, and fabrication of master and sample parts, master templates, layouts and apply templates, and sheet metal assembly mock-ups.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:
- Plans and determines the layout, development and fabrication methods necessary to make master and sample parts, production templates and sheet metal assembly mock-ups where it is required to exercise a complete knowledge of template making theory and practice.
- Makes contacts when and where necessary to supplement layout and coordination data obtained from loft information, blueprints, master models.
- Lays out master templates for assemblies as required; lays out parts nested in or on box contour set-ups involving projection of circles and other layout data to show cutout locations.
- Incorporates Engineering changes into layout of master parts, master layout, and sheet metal assembly mock-up.
- Checks errors, points of interference or discrepancies which become apparent during the development of the job by determining coordinating points and lines for mating parts and their relationship to each other and adjacent contours and/or assemblies.
- Initiates Engineering design changes where omissions or confliction occur.
- Works from and coordinates to production fixtures and assemblies where work operations are essentially the same as described.
- Proves developed templates by tool tries.
- Performs satisfactorily the duties of the Template Maker B.
- Performs rework, repair and other associated operations in connection with the work described.
- Follow all Senior policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree; or 6 months to 1 year of related experience and/ or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skills:
- Language: Ability to read and interpret complex engineering blueprints, loft data and layout information.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving a few variables in standardized situations.
- Mathematical Ability: Ability to use shop mathematics, including trigonometry and descriptive geometry.
- Other Abilities: Must be able to set-up and operate power metal machines used in template making. Must be able to work to exacting tolerances. Must be able to use precision measuring instruments and metal working tools used in template. Must be able to apply a complete knowledge of sheet metal layout, forming and fabrication methods and procedures.
Tools used:
- Mechanic hand tools, sine bars, precision instruments. Surface plates, vises, jigs.
Materials used:
Ferrous and non-ferrous metals, lubricants, and abrasives.
