Job Description: The Lead Data Scientist at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in New York, New York will apply and integrate advanced statistical, mathematical, data mining, predictive modeling, and business analysis to discover and identify new insights, predict and prescribe outcomes, advise on turning new insights into actionable opportunities and outcomes, and provide tracking and measurement of results. Independently develop solutions, mathematical models, algorithms, machine learning techniques, and analytics to support business insights and data visualization for productization and monetization. Apply creative problem solving and inter-departmental networking to address data and information needs across the enterprise. Share best practices with peers through coaching and mentoring around core methodologies, patterns, standards and processes. Drive innovation by exploring new experimentation methods and statistical techniques to sharpen or speed up product decision-making processes. Discover technology improvement opportunities through extensive analysis and work with other teams to address opportunities. Utilize Python, R, and SAS and create SQL queries. Refit models constantly as data changes over time. Identify available internal and external data resources to develop and deliver information solutions, including analytical information. Utilize distributed, relational, and cloud-based databases and query languages. Local telecommuting permitted. Salary $142,030- $252,200 per year.

Minimum Requirements: Master's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field, plus 1 year of experience as a data scientist or related occupation. Experience must include 1 year of experience with each of the following: (1) programming with Python, Java, or Ruby; (2) statistical analysis using R or SAS; (3) SQL queries; (4) probability theory and statistical analysis; (5) distributed, relational, and cloud-based databases and query languages including Hive and Spark; (6) data analysis and analytics; and (7) modeling datasets using machine learning techniques.
