The Human Resources (HR) Officer manages the end-to-end HR service delivery for the Basic Science, Biomedical Graduate Education (BGE), and Biomedical Research departments within the Biomedical Graduate Research Organization (BGRO) at Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC). This position is responsible for processing employment requests and documents for faculty, staff, postdoctoral fellows, and students. To advance this work, the HR Officer administers and maintains the human capital management (HCM) system, ensuring data accuracy for reporting and analytics. The HR Officer will partner with departments to provide guidance and support for managers and administrators on recruitment, selection, hiring, onboarding, and HR policies and procedures.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Serve as the first point of contact for employment related inquiries, and a subject matter expert for HCM business processes.
  • Prepare and process human resources and payroll related transactions to support the full employee lifecycle.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional and HR policies, as well as local/federal labor laws and regulations.
  • Coordinate with programs and departments on all HR functions, to include students, faculty and staff hiring.
  • Manage and maintain employee data and records in GMS for reporting and planning purposes.
  • Serve as a liaison to employees, campus stakeholders, University partners on employment related issues.
  • Support operational efficiency efforts to improve HR practices and procedures in support of a complex and rapidly changing environment.


Work Interactions

The HR Officer is part of the GUMC HR team and will report to the Director of Human Resources. This position will partner with campus and University stakeholders (Office of Faculty & Academic Affairs, GUMC Finance, University Human Resources, University Information Services, Office of Faculty & Staff Benefits, and Payroll Services) to achieve the operational and strategic talent management goals and objectives of GUMC.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 5-7 years of progressively responsible administrative experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Basic knowledge of HCM systems (Workday) and HR processes
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with superior attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Ability to exercise discretion, and handle sensitive information with confidentiality and maintain data privacy
  • Experience in higher education HR administration is preferred

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$54,616.00 - $100,493.33

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
