Scope of Position

The Social Worker Lead assists the Social Work Manager and Director in leading a team of inpatient and ambulatory social workers in providing psychosocial care and supportive services directed towards achievement of positive patient care outcomes, maximizing the patients involvement in his/her own plan of care, improving service levels, reducing the length of hospitalization, and decreasing costs. The Social Worker Lead is also responsible for providing direct services as a Social Worker to patients and families at the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (The James).

Position Summary

The Social Worker Lead assists the Social Work Manager and Director with the planning, organization, direction, and evaluation of services provided by Social Workers. Under the guidance of the Director and the Manager, the Lead assists in managing, guiding, coaching, and evaluating the work performance of inpatient and ambulatory Social Workers. Contributing to the ongoing operations of the Patient Care Resource Management and Social Work Department and collaboration with other patient care departments/areas that relate directly or indirectly to patient care operations and services is essential.

The Social Worker Lead also provides direct social work services to patients and families. Social work services provided include psychosocial assessment, mental health counseling, supportive care screening, crisis intervention, financial counseling, discharge planning, health education and the provision of material resources, and linkage with community agencies. Social work services are provided to patients and families to meet their medically related social and emotional needs as they impact their medical condition, treatment, recovery, and safe transition from one care environment to another.

Minimum Qualifications

Master of Social Work from an accredited Graduate School of Social Work, State of Ohio Social Work licensure or equivalent education/experience. LISW-S preferred. At least five (5) years of experience as a Social Worker and at least one (1) year of experience as a Social Worker at The James. Meet mandatory education and health surveillance requirements.Demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions.
