Starting Salary: $43.92/Hour

This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with THE STATE AND MUNICIPAL TEAMSTERS, CHAUFFERS, & HELPERS UNION - LOCAL 700 BARGAINING UNIT 08. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

Under supervision, drives a van to patrol a designated area and identify vehicles of parking and ticket scofflaws immobilize the boot-eligible vehicles using a universal boot device, and performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES



  • Drives a van equipped with an automated License Plate Recognition (LPR) system and video cameras to patrol streets and identify boot-eligible vehicles parked in the public way, on an assigned shift.
  • Responds to signal from LPR equipment scanning license plates and identifying boot-eligible vehicles and complete towing reports.
  • Checks computer screen to verify that scanned license plate and system's license plate numbers match and enter information into CANVAS database.
  • Exits van and attaches and locks universal boot device on front tire of boot eligible-vehicles.
  • Places informational stickers on booted vehicle explaining steps for payment and removal of boot
  • Unlocks and removes universal boot devices to release vehicles identified as having met payment requirements.
  • Enters appropriate commands on LPR system to ensure video equipment recoded booting activity.
  • Maintains a log of vehicles booted or released including make and model of vehicle, City sticker, license, vehicle damage, device number, location, time, and date.
  • Use of two-way radio to maintain communications with dispatchers and investigator personnel.
  • Conducts safety check of van at beginning of shift to ensure safe and efficient operating conditions.
  • Interacts with the public, responding to inquiries and providing general information to vehicle owners on boot program and payment procedures.
  • Prepares work activity reports.
  • Load and unload vans with equipment.


Additional duties may be required for this position

Location: 940 W. Exchange

Days: Monday - Friday

Hours: 8:00 pm - 4:30 am

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



  • Willingness and ability to perform the job duties
  • A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS




  • Frequent lifting (up to 35 lbs.) is required
  • Ability to access, retrieve, and place boots on vehicles
  • Ability to operate applicable hand tools, power tools, and equipment
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires bidders and applicants to complete a written test/skills assessment(s). Test results will be sent out by the Department of Human Resources after test results have been analyzed and compiled. Bidders who receive a passing score on the test will be hired in seniority order according to the collective bargaining agreement. Applicants who receive a passing score on the test will be hired in lottery/random order.

This position requires candidates to complete a Willing and Able questionnaire. Candidates who affirmatively answer the Willing and Able questionnaire will be evaluated for further consideration.

Applicants who successfully pass the written test/skills assessment will need to complete a physical assessment.
