Job Description

Torch Technologies is seeking a IT Data Center Manager, to join a team providing dedicated and professional Advisory and Assistance Support (A&AS) to ensure effective, timely and optimal operation of Information Systems that support the Air Force Research Laboratory Munitions Directorate (AFRL/RW) Research and Development (R&D) mission. Our work encompasses the activities associated with information management, Information Technology (IT), automation support, system administration, computer programming, configuration management, imaging, training, telecommunications, help desk, operations, customer support, administrative support, technical engineering, and other specialized networking and data communications services. This position provides advice and assistance as Information Data Center Manager to oversee the daily operations, maintenance, and optimization of a complex data center hosting multiple networks at multiple classification levels.

This role is responsible for ensuring smooth and secure functioning of servers, hardware, and network infrastructure. Implementing and maintaining stringent security protocols and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and industry best practices to safeguard sensitive data is essential to this position.

This position requires a highly motivated individual. The successful candidate shall:



  • Manage Data Center operations to ensure that the data center runs efficiently and reliably, including server hardware, network infrastructure, and cooling/power systems.
  • Analyze current and future data center needs to ensure sufficient resources (e.g. space, power, cooling) are available. Maintain data center topologies and awareness of capacity and limitations; brief status as needed and participate in the customer's Requirements Review Board (R2B) on data center matters. Ensure sufficient redundancy in data center infrastructure to maintain high availability and reliability.
  • Address technical issues promptly and effectively, minimizing downtime and ensuring business continuity.
  • Implement and manage changes to the data center environment, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  • Implement effective data storage strategies, including cloud, on-premise, and hybrid solutions.
  • Implement and maintain robust backup and disaster recovery plans to protect critical data and systems. Develop, maintain and exercise Continuity of Operations plans for the data center, coordinating with system/enclave owners for unique requirements.
  • Implement, maintain, and enforce strict data security measures and disaster recovery plans to protect the data center and its assets from unauthorized access and cyber threats. Ensure compliance with legal, industry, and DoD standards.
  • Coordinate and participate with customers and functional leads to oversee data center projects such as construction and expansions, including planning, design, construction, and implementation, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate and participate with the customer's functional teams (e.g. IT, facilities, security, safety) to ensure projects are successful and meet timelines and regulatory/statutory requirements.
  • Advise and assist data center technicians ensuring required guidance and training are provided. Cultivate and manage relationships with vendors, ensuring quality and timely delivery of equipment and services. Communicate effectively with government management, stakeholders, other technicians, and users providing updates on data center performance and issues.

Job Requirements

Education:

Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information systems, engineering, or related field.

Experience:



  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in networking/data center operations or administration is required.
  • Candidates must possess a deep understanding of networking concepts, protocols, infrastructure, and systems and how they work together.
  • A proficiency in hardware, software, network, security, and backup systems is essential to this position.
  • Experience with server racks, servers, routers, switches, storage equipment, power infrastructures, and cooling equipment is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders is required.
  • Candidates must be able to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Candidates must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, Windows 10, Windows 11, and related Personal Computer (PC) skills.
  • Candidates should be goal-oriented with excellent interpersonal skills, capable of exercising tact and diplomacy, have the ability to work in a dynamic team environment, possess a strong work ethic, and be customer-focused.
  • Candidates should be able to mentor team members and eagerly assist in solving complex technical problems.
  • Candidates must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and written.


Certifications:

Candidates must meet DoD 8140 IAT Level II requirements. The candidate shall maintain eligibility for the position through meeting the continuous education requirements as outlined in DoD 8140, 671-System Testing & Evaluation Specialist annual maintenance requirements. This may include a Security+ certification sponsored by the Computing Technology Industry Association (COMPTIA) or equivalent certification compliant with Department of Defense Directive (DoDD) 8140.1 or successor requirements.

Preferred Skills:



  • Masters degree in relevant discipline is preferred.
  • Specific experience in Department of Defense and U.S. Air Force environments is preferred.
  • Knowledge of topology mapping/rack elevation software, such as Visio and Lucid is strongly desired.
  • Prior experience in roles such as Network Engineer, Network Administrator, or Server Management is preferred.
