Position Purpose

The Instructional Assistant for the Medical Laboratory Program is a vital role that requires a highly trained and skilled Medical Technologist. This position directly supports the mission and strategic objectives of the College. The Instructional Assistant plays an essential role in supporting the lead instructor in both classroom and laboratory settings. Responsibilities will vary depending on the instructional context but generally include the following duties:


Essential Functions

  • Provide direct instruction and remediation to students in the laboratory setting, aligning with program faculty guidance and established curriculum standards.
  • Assist lead faculty with delivery of specialized content during classroom instruction.
  • Offer individual and group tutoring sessions to support student understanding and success in alignment with course objectives.
  • Design and prepare competency-based and practical laboratory assessments to evaluate student skills and knowledge.
  • Evaluate and grade student performance on laboratory exercises and competency/practical tests.
  • Participate in the student evaluation process in collaboration with lead instructors, providing feedback and performance data.
  • Work with lead instructors to develop and enhance laboratory activities, ensuring the program remains aligned with current industry standards and practices.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Requires a minimum of a bachelor's of science degree in Medical Technology.

  • Requires MLT (ASCP) or MLS (ASCP) certification and a minimum of three years of hospital clinical laboratory experience.

  • Experience in most (all) areas of the lab and prior teaching experience at post-secondary level a plus.
