Protective relays, located in substations, control breakers for automatic switching to isolate faulted equipment without disturbing other normally operating portions of the electric system. This department develops controls designs/schematics and calculates specific system relay settings for the substation equipment. The overall Protection & Controls Engineering department strives to maintain an open and collaborative team learning environment. A successful employee demonstrates the ability to clearly communicate with others and is continually expanding their expertise by having an inquisitive mindset. They also demonstrate a process driven mindset and is detail oriented. Teammates work with a variety of peers to share knowledge and advance overall department expertise. Protection & Controls Engineering deliverables impact the transmission power grid and fulfills various NERC compliance activities. The Engineer III is an advancing level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer III position solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with limited supervision. An Engineer III is expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer III effectively applies fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is progressively complex and varied. The Senior Engineer manages work in engineering areas of specialization, with minimal supervision. The Senior Engineer is expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. Employees in the Senior Engineer position are fully competent in the use of concepts and procedures. The Senior Engineer identifies problems, develops solutions, and acts to resolve. Responsibilities
