About the Department
Engineering Communications operates within the NC State University College of Engineering as a three-fold unit governing publications, media relations, digital marketing, and internal and constituent communications for one of the largest engineering colleges in the nation. The unit provides services of publications planning, design, technical graphics, writing, and editing; website design, and preparation; social media content creation and curation along with consulting with the College's departments and research centers; photography, speech writing, presentation development, media relations, and marketing strategy development, including branding. This unit provides all communication support for the NC State Engineering Foundation.
Essential Job Duties
The College Photographer role is to perform artistic, creative and event-based photographic work reflecting the full range of activities in the College of Engineering at NC State.
The position is expected to provide photographic services to the Engineering community, including academic departments, research centers, the office of the dean and Engineering Advancement. The role is to work with other communication offices as appropriate to meet their needs for photographic support for events, news stories, informational material and outreach engagements.
Assist internal stakeholders with photographic needs for use in web, social media, magazines, brochures, newsletters and other publications to include identifying and defining needs, recommending photographic techniques and approaches to help communicate intended message and create desired effect, planning photo sessions, and advising on other professional and artistic subjects related to uses and applications of photography; counsel on photographic capabilities; inform of new capabilities and advise as to possible applications.
The role is expected to maintain an extensive and current library of quality photographic images representing all aspects of life and research in the College of Engineering, and disseminate images as needed.
Other Responsibilities
Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities. The position will also be assisting in video production for collaboration opportunities.
Qualifications


Minimum Experience/Education

High school diploma or equivalency and two years of visual/graphic arts experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Other Required Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of all social media channels and their audiences and the ability to develop targeted messages to engage them
  • Strong interpersonal skills which promote collaboration and productivity
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines
  • Availability to work outside of normal business hours, including evenings and weekends as events require

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in marketing/communications in a professional environment
  • Knowledge of and experience using core applications of Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Experience with Sony photography platforms, Photo Mechanic, and Adobe Lightroom

Required License or Certification

  • Valid driver's license required
  • A valid North Carolina Driver's License is required within 60 days of start date. Must be maintained as a condition of employment
