POSITION SPECIFICS

The Morgan Academic Center is seeking a Student Athlete Learning Specialist with excellent interpersonal, organizational, and technology skills. This position will work in support of the Morgan Academic Center's mission: to provide comprehensive learning services that support all student-athletes in reaching their potential while achieving academic and athletic excellence.

The Student Athlete Learning Specialist provides resources to student athletes; monitor student growth and aid in building intervention and learning strategies inareas of time management, planning academic work, writing development, and address motivational barriers; facilitate trainings to comply with the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certification requirements for ongoing professional development of our tutorial staff; interacts with students and parents to address academic, educational or personal needs; assist in creating a supportive environment and offering high quality services on behalf of a diverse student population in collaboration with others in the work unit and University community.

Additional duties include:
  • Develop individualized academic support plans tailored to the needs of each student
  • Support an assigned caseload of student-athletes and participate in ongoing projects to enhance the overall learning services
  • Review reports/records to determine need for specialized services for at-risk students and students with diagnosed disabilities in seeking appropriate resources
  • Review and evaluate incoming and returning student-athlete documentation, and identify at-risk student-athletes
  • Provide coaching staff information regarding potential academic services and support to prospective incoming student-athletes and their families
  • Organize tutorial support for student-athletes, and monitor compliance of program policies and procedures
  • Coordinate and oversee services and programs provided by a campus or unit learning center including tutoring services, academic skills workshops, and peer study groups
  • Participate in ongoing projects to enhance the overall learning services
  • Communicate with disability services and academic staff to continually monitor student academic progress and concerns
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate tutors
  • Maintain databases for data collection and prepare reports regarding student needs
  • May supervise staff members, including hiring, development, and performance management

This position is filled at the Advanced Professional or Intermediate Professional leveldepending on education and years of experience.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

If filled as Student Athlete Learning Specialist - Advanced Professional, this position requires: Master's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None If filled as Student Athlete Learning Specialist - Intermediate Professional, this position requires: Bachelor's Degree 1+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $42,100.00 - $67,300.00.
