We are looking for a VP, Controller who will support the Chief Financial Officer in ensuring the smooth operation of the department by performing a range of accounting functions. This is a hands-on position requiring an ability to see the big picture wile using a detailed and task-oriented approach. This person will provide day-to-day leadership for the accounting staff and will act as backup to the CFO.
How you will accomplish this:
- Ensure the general ledger, accounts payable, fixed asset and investment functions are managed appropriately, and internal procedures operate smoothly
- Review the GL for reasonableness of recorded income and expenses. Direct the reconciliation process of the Bank's asset and liability accounts.
- Manage daily funds management to include borrowings and brokered deposits and prepare liquidity reports as assigned
- Oversee month-end closing, including monthly GL accruals
- Prepare monthly internal financial statements and other assigned management reports
- Preparation of the Bank's audited financial statements and associated footnotes while maintaining financial reporting compliance with GAAP
- Assist the CFO with the annual budgeting process
- Prepare regulatory reports as required under federal and state banking regulations, including Call Report
- Coordinate data collection and submission for external audits, regulatory exams and selected internal audits
- Maintain accounting records and file the Annual Report for SCB, Inc, the Bank's wholly owned subsidiary
- Prepare financial statements for Salem Community Benefit, Inc.
- Coordinate security purchase settlements and deliveries
- Remit estimated federal and state tax payments
- Prepare ALCO and Investment meeting packages
- Attend and draft minutes for ALCO and Investment Committee meetings
- Provide backup to VP-Human Resources for payroll submission
- Prepare census reports for annual Director Retirement plans
- Coordinate the payment of director's fees and retirement benefits, including the issuance of Form 1099-NEC
- Perform other duties as needed
What you will bring to the role:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance and 5+ years of related banking or accounting experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial statement preparation
- Knowledge of and experience with state and federal bank regulations and reporting requirements
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
- Knowledge of bank products, services, operations, payroll processing and recordkeeping
- Strong mathematical, organizational, problem solving, technical/computer, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in Excel, Word, and Adobe Acrobat; experience utilizing Accounting and ALM software preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strong attention to detail and meeting deadlines
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
