AWM Alternatives Structuring Group Overview

The Alternatives Structuring Group (ASG) sits within AWM and focuses on tax and structuring optimization for both existing and new products, funds, and other clients, developing & implementing tax-efficient structures and products and supporting client engagement around tax efficiencies across AWM's alternatives complex globally. ASG partners closely with AWM investment, fundraising and client relationship teams to deliver on this important strategy. The ASG team is currently based in New York and London.

Role Overview & Job Responsibilities

ASG is seeking a Senior Vice President in New York to lead its US Tax practice as Head of ASG Americas that sits within AWM.

The candidate should have a strong background in US tax concepts, in particular those related to asset management, and a working knowledge of tax concepts of other major jurisdictions, e.g., Luxembourg, Singapore.

This role requires deep knowledge of partnership taxation, international tax, fund structure, and other tax / regulatory requirements specific to the asset management industry.

This seat will play a key role in supporting business growth and should be able to think creatively about planning strategies to mitigate tax leakage for funds and other clients.

The key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:



  • Developing / implementing tax strategies to optimize the fund investors' tax positions and advising on tax implications of new products and structures within AWM.
  • The ability to quantitatively model various tax planning proposals/strategies in order to substantiate their after-tax benefit is a plus.
  • In addition, the individual should have strong communication skills such that he/she is able to clearly and concisely explain tax benefits and concepts to AWM investment, fundraising, client relationship teams as well as other senior business leaders.


Required Qualifications



  • 7+ years of work experience as a tax attorney at a top-tier law firm and extensive experience in the funds/asset management space
  • Strong quantitative, analytical & modeling skills
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and excellent follow-through
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Strong academic credentials (JD required, Tax LLM a plus)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task and meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced team environment
  • Strong skills in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint and Word)


Salary Range
The expected base salary for this New York, New York, United States-based position is $150,000 to $300,000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
