Senior Radio Systems Engineer

This role is a hybrid position.

This position is considered hybrid, allowing for a combination of remote work and in-office collaboration. Qualified applicants must live within commuting distance of our Goleta, CA office location or Boston, MA office location to be in office 3 days per week.

As a Senior Radio Systems Engineer, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of Sonos products by driving the design, validation, and successful production launch of innovative new radio systems. You'll lead a small team, guiding the development, validation, and transition of new radio designs into high-volume production. This role demands a blend of technical expertise, collaborative spirit, and the drive to innovate in a dynamic environment. This role involves leading a small team in the complete lifecycle of new radio designs, from development and validation to their successful implementation in high-volume manufacturing. It requires a combination of strong technical skills, excellent teamwork abilities, and a proactive approach to innovation within a fast-paced setting.

What You'll Do

• Define radio system architectures and drive key chipset selections for new product platforms.

• Design detailed schematics and guide PCB layout processes with a focus on RF performance and manufacturing feasibility.

• Lead system bring-up, debugging, optimization, and thorough performance verification.

• Characterize radio systems including receiver and transmitter chains and key components such as RFIC transceivers, LNAs, and PAs.

• Measure and analyze critical RF parameters (e.g., sensitivity, power, EVM, linearity) to ensure optimal performance.

• Collaborate with Software, Digital EE, and Platform teams to deliver high-performing radio solutions aligned with product requirements.

• Oversee radio testing at manufacturing partner sites (JDMs), providing guidance and support for debugging and production readiness.

• Partner with the compliance team to meet global regulatory requirements (e.g., FCC, IC, ETSI, SRRC, MIC).

• Support the transition of new designs into production, resolving wireless-related challenges proactively.

• Present technical findings to internal stakeholders and leadership in a clear and professional manner.

• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development.

Skills You'll Need:
Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in RF systems engineering, with a focus on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technologies.

• Proven ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex RF systems.

• Deep knowledge of RF components such as PAs, LNAs, mixers, and PLLs.

• Experience with board-level integration, RF debugging, and antenna system design.

• Skilled in using RF test equipment (e.g., signal generators, spectrum/network analyzers, oscilloscopes).

• Familiarity with global wireless regulatory standards and compliance processes.

• Proficiency with scripting languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for test automation and data analysis.

• Comfortable working in Linux-based environments.

• Willingness to travel up to 10% to support global manufacturing and development partners.

• Experience working with international manufacturing partners.

• Excellent communication and presentation skills.

• Strong leadership and team mentorship capabilities.

The specific pay offered will depend on the candidate's geographic location, as well as qualifications and experience. We apply geographic pay differentials based on the cost of labor in the market. Employees in high-cost locations may be compensated at the upper end of the range, while those in medium or low cost markets may be compensated at the lower end of the range.
