Brown and Caldwell is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to join our control systems team in Columbus. This hybrid role merges the strategic client engagement responsibilities with the technical leadership and team management duties. The ideal candidate will be a licensed professional engineer with a passion for delivering innovative automation and control solutions for water and wastewater systems, mentoring technical teams, and driving business growth.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Build, manage, and grow client relationships in the Columbus and greater Ohio region.
  • Support new business opportunities and lead proposal development and project pursuits for control system and automation.
  • Represent the firm in client meetings, industry events, and technical presentations.
  • Lead a team of automation engineers and control systems specialists across multiple offices.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of SCADA systems, PLC programming, HMI development, and instrumentation integration.
  • Provide QA/QC reviews and ensure adherence to BC standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Support environmental studies, permitting, and site investigations where automation plays a role.


Team Management & Discipline Development



  • Supervise and mentor technical staff, including performance evaluations and career development.
  • Manage team workload, hiring, and project assignments.
  • Collaborate with other discipline leaders and the National Practice Leader to develop and implement automation standards and best practices.
  • Maintain workload tracking tools and manage subcontracted automation resources.


Desired Skills & Experience:



  • B.S. in Electrical, Control Systems, Chemical, Mechanical, or related engineering field (M.S. preferred).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Ohio or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in automation engineering, SCADA systems, and project management in the water/wastewater sector.
  • Proven success in client service, business development, and project delivery.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with technical writing, proposal development, and public presentations.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.


Salary Range:

The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A: Salary $97,000 - $132,000
