This position includes team-teaching with two other instructors for Cluster 73A for first-year students with varied backgrounds. The course, ALL IN YOUR HEAD? BRAIN, BODYMIND, AND SOCIETY, draws on several disciplines -- including disability studies, literary and film analysis, neurobiology, philosophy, and psychology -- to develop an interdisciplinary account of how we relate our increasingly sophisticated knowledge of brain to contexts and meanings of subjectivity, mental health, and disability. We are specifically seeking a scholar who can provide lectures that engage with plays, as well as poetry and narrative fiction. The candidate will help students learn concepts and critical tools to undertake literary analysis and assist them in exploring how conceptions of the human mind and of mental illness in different historical periods can inform the creation of a literary work in that period. This position may also include administrative duties. UCLA has a diverse student population in one of the more diverse cities in the nation; we particularly seek candidates who have taught similarly diverse students in a major research university.
