Overview

Responsible for strategic and operational leadership for all behavioral health inpatient nursing and community-based nursing for Carle Health. Provides oversight of the development of business, financial personnel and clinical programming that fosters growth, while meeting patient and provider expectations. Possesses overall managerial responsibilities for all aspects of patient care delivery for assigned areas of responsibility and is accountable for the operational performance, including quality of services, financial performance and competitive market position. Works closely with Medical Staff to collaborate on advancing clinical outcomes and efficiency. Ensures all functions are in compliance with applicable regulatory guidelines and accrediting standards. Observes and practices within framework of the scope and standards for nurse administration.


Qualifications

Certifications:

  • Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) and
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree - Nursing
  • Master's Degree - within 2 years of hire

Work Experience:

  • Leadership - 3 years
  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of position and
  • Work may occasionally require travel to other Carle Health facilities/hospitals
  • Required to drive your own vehicle for business purposes

  • Advanced reading skills
  • Advanced writing skills
  • Advanced oral skills
  • Intermediate computer knowledge
  • Excellent communication skills to include business plan preparation.
  • Capable of conducting return on investment (ROI) analysis.
  • Strong physician relations exemplified by follow-up, meeting attendance and effective negotiating skills.
  • Fiscal acumen demonstrated by development of annual budgets reflecting capital acquisition planning, staffing and operational expense.

  • Leads, supports and holds nurse managers accountable for implementing best practices in nursing.
  • Monitors and communicates individual and department productivity
  • Identifies and communicates departmental goals & holds managers accountable
  • Responsible for the execution of performance reviews, discipline, terminations and the interviewing and selection of staff
  • Evaluates and implements opportunities for integration of hospital based and community-based operations and programming
  • Provide direction related to the Illinois Nurse Practice Acts, ANA and APNA practice standards, Code of Ethics, Licensure and CEU requirements, job descriptions, professional accountability in nurse practice, APRN/ARNP licensure, training, and scope of practice
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar
  • Ensures competency and skills validations for all practice areas. This includes community care coordination nursing, community support program, residential and outpatient mental health and outpatient substance use disorder facilities, free standing treatment centers for Carle Health as well as inpatient behavioral health units at Methodist and Proctor campuses.
  • Ensures that written organizational clinical policies and procedures are reviewed and updated in accordance with evidence-based practice standards

  • Serves as a strong patient advocate
  • Possesses knowledge and ensures compliance with organizational and regulatory standards, ie. National Patient Safety Goals, Joint Commission, infection control practices, mental health and developmental disabilities code, and other state and federal regulations.
  • Assures safe environment for employees to perform their work.
  • Provides administrative direction to improve performance, based on monitoring and reporting of short- and long-term outcomes.
  • Serves as a liaison for physicians, providers, families, and patients

Service

  • Demonstrates prompt and immediate follow-up of all untoward events and/or negative outcomes occurring within the scope of Carle Health facilities and units.
  • Monitors patient satisfaction with services
  • Monitors survey results. Communicates results to employees and explores ways to improve satisfaction with care and services.
  • Maintains visibility and ongoing dialogue with physicians to address issues
  • Communicates effectively with employees. Creates an environment conducive to the development of clinical competence, self-confidence, professional growth and job satisfaction.
  • Consistently demonstrates compliance with Human Resources departmental policies and procedures
  • Monitors and minimizes employee turnover

Financial

  • Collaborates with Financial Services to develop a realistic budget
  • Directs business development to enhance the financial stability of the Carle Health services
  • Provides advice and recommendations for the capital budget planning process
  • Monitors supply expenses. Works with management team to resolve variances
  • Demonstrates innovation in the development and implementation of cost reduction strategies.
  • Monitors productivity to ensure balance of fiscal responsibility to provision of services to patients and physicians
  • Performs marketing services and encourages participation in community needs assessments, educational programs, health screenings and promotion of overall health and wellness resulting in a clear/positive public image of behavioral health for physicians and community.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $57.82per hour - $99.45per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
