Description The Associate Division Chief will work closely with the Division Chief of HBS Regional Programs to successfully develop, implement and operationalize the strategic vision of the division. The Associate Division Chief will collaborate with the Division Chief and program medical directors across the network to drive quality improvement initiatives, improve educational offerings and help improve overall connectivity between the network and the Children's National main campus.
Qualifications

Minimum Education
Medical Doctor (M.D.) Requires Medical Doctor degree from an accredited medical school. (Required)

Required Licenses and Certifications
DC, VA Medical license; DEA/ CDS (when applicable) (Required)
Licenses as needed to support Telemedicine Program (Required) American Board of Pediatrics (Required)
American Board of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine (Required)

Functional Accountabilities
Commitment to World Class Care



  • Provide clinical services for patients at Children's Hospital R-HBS NICU locations in an ethical, professional and timely manner


  • Along with the Division Chief, provide oversight of the networked programs, providing analysis and recommendations on care-team design


  • Serve as a leader in communication throughout the network


  • Assist the Chief of R-HBS with an annual analysis for patient outcomes and quality outcome projects, providing action plans as needed. (Vermont Oxford Network analysis)


  • Assist with Chief of R-HBS with administrative call for the extended network and serve as a point of contact for outside executive teams


Commitment to Advocacy



  • Participate in Children's National advocacy initiatives as applicable to R-HBS Division


Commitment to Research



  • Conduct research of significant scientific value in the clinical and translational science area(s) relevant to his/her practice specialty.


  • Participate in reviewing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.


  • Serve as a mentor for junior faculty.


Commitment to Education



  • Participate in Children's National medical education programs through learning activities with colleagues and trainees.


  • Participate as appropriate in hospital/university-wide educational programs and outreach forums to our regional and referral neonatal programs


  • Participate as appropriate in local, regional and national educational efforts.


Commitment to Quality & Compliance



  • Follow established bylaws, policies and procedures, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.


  • Adequately and promptly complete all clinical documentation as required by JCAHO, other regulatory bodies and/or the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and Policies and Procedures include complete clinical charge documentation.


  • Identify problems related to patient services and make recommendations for improvement.


  • Cooperate and participate in the development, implementation and revision of policies affecting medical practice, judgment and quality of care; Participate as a member of special care teams, Medical Staff and hospital committees.


  • Review and prepare protocol for use by staff. Evaluate patient care according to adopted protocol and Quality Assurance program criteria. Participate in evaluation of peers and support staff; acknowledge and report medical and/or other errors as well as participate in efforts to prevent them.


Strategy Development and Leadership



  • Assist the Division Chief in development of clinical directions for the Division, in concert with the Center leadership and Chief.


  • Take a leadership role in promoting the activity of the Division to enhance Children's National clinical and academic reputation within the community. Work, in concert with the institution, on marketing of Division activities.


  • Ensure adherence within the Division of the hospital and medical staff bylaws and policies and procedures.


  • Participate in financial planning and budget preparation for the resource needs of the division.


  • In conjunction with the Division Chief, work to best align resources to meet patient demand.


  • Track, monitor, and evaluate best resource allocation to patient demand and increase access to the Division.


  • Plan and advance clinical performance to meet value-based care and population health metrics and payment.
  • Serve as the Division Chief's primary back-up. Act on behalf of the Chief in his/her absence.
