Job Overview

Pharmacist Educator utilizes the clinical and operational knowledge of the science of pharmacy practice to provide expertise in pharmacy education. Pharmacist Educator is responsible for competency oversight in alignment with best practices, development of education templates, in-service education, orientation/onboarding, dissemination of information and collaborative partnerships. Pharmacist Educator also participates in research and quality improvement activities. Pharmacist Educator must demonstrate competencies in all areas of pharmacy operations. This position has no direct reports.

Department: South Campus Pharmacy
Hours per week: 40, eligible for benefits
Shift: Variable day/evening hours. Every 4th weekend and holiday rotation.

*This role will require staffing as a pharmacist based on the needs of the department, which will also require supporting North Campus.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Designs, coordinates, facilitates onboarding and orientation programs for pharmacy team members.
  • Evaluates orientation and onboarding experiences to ensure newly hired team members are prepared to practice safely and independently.
  • Mentors, develops, and evaluates trainers to enhance learning experiences for all new hires.
  • Coaches' others to improve their skills through observation and feedback.
  • Supports the integration of evidence-based literature into practice by assessing learning needs and incorporating adult learning principles to facilitate active learner involvement.
  • Completes ongoing assessment of training programs including Continuous Quality Improvement and regular incorporation of team member feedback. Regular report out to department leadership including any assessments that require action.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of effective communication principles and promotes collaboration among multiple disciplines to advance the care of patients, families, and the profession of pharmacy.
  • Informs shared decision making and collaborates with multi-disciplinary stakeholders and pharmacy leadership to ensure educational programs support organizational goals and strategic plan(s).
  • Assumes responsibility for the development, maintenance, and implementation of education and training for; pharmacy standards of care, policies and procedures, and training manual materials.
  • Utilizes evidence-based literature in the development, revision and evaluation of policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines for practice.
  • Acts as a resource to patient safety/medication safety team members, related to patient safety issues. Supports quality improvement standards; regulatory standards; patient safety standards; error prevention tools, methodologies, technologies, and resources.
  • Demonstrates leadership through team building, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills to build partnerships across the system.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: PharmD or RPh
  • Experience: Three (3) years of work experience as a pharmacist
  • Equivalency: Completion of a Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) pharmacy residency is considered equivalent to two (2) years of professional experience in a hospital setting. Completion of a Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) residency is also considered equivalent to two (2) years of professional pharmacy experience, for a total of up to four (4) years when combined with PGY1.
  • Certifications:
    • Teaching certificate required within 1 year of start date in position.
    • BLS certification (American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or American Safety and Health Institute accepted)
  • Licensure: State of Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) Pharmacy license or eligible to sit for licensure

Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $140,287.01 to $210,430.52
