Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Senior Nuclear/Mechanical Thermal-Hydraulic Engineer. to work on our Thermal-Hydraulics Experiment and Modeling & Simulation team. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our REC facility with every other Friday off.

The individual will engage with senior INL leadership on critical issues that necessitate cross-organizational collaboration and will actively cultivate client relationships. The chosen candidate must have extensive experience in RELAP5-3D development and consistently stay informed about advancements in the nuclear and computing industries, proactively recommending code maintenance and development activities.

Responsibilities Include:



  • Apply nuclear engineering principles to design, develop, test, and analyze nuclear equipment and systems.
  • Identifies and seeks new funding streams through industry contacts, writing white papers, and responding to RFPs (Request for Proposals).
  • Engages with current and prospective clients to add or modify existing capabilities within RELAP5-3D to meet client needs. Examines theory and coding to develop methods to implement required changes.
  • Leads assigned projects including, working collaboratively with team members to assign tasks, preparing budget estimates, developing project timelines and milestones, attending status meetings, and completing project presentations and reports.
  • Prepare the Software Design and Implementation Document (SDID) and conduct a design review for each project.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:



  • Level 4: Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering or directly related engineering field from an ABET-accredited institution and 9 years of relevant experience; or a Master's of Science in Nuclear Engineering or directly related engineering field from an ABET-accredited institution and 6 years of experience; or a PhD in Nuclear Engineering or directly related engineering field from an ABET-accredited institution and 4 years of relevant experience
  • Level 5: Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering or directly related engineering field from an ABET-accredited institution and 14 years of relevant experience; or a Master's of Science in Nuclear Engineering or directly related engineering field from an ABET-accredited institution and 8 years of experience; or a PhD in Nuclear Engineering or directly related engineering field from an ABET-accredited institution and 6 years of relevant experience
  • This position is subject to the requirements of DOE O 142.3B, Unclassified Foreign National Access Program.
  • Recognized expert with broad expertise, unique knowledge, and extensive experience with systems code development.
  • Demonstrated experience with FORTRAN90 or higher and Linux and Windows O/S.
  • Extensive experience in code development
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Recognized and well known in the thermal hydraulics community.


The ideal candidate will possess:



  • Advanced degree in Nuclear Engineering or a directly related engineering field from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Experience in nuclear fuels and materials, reactor physics, thermal hydraulics, core design, and analysis tools/methods.


Job Information:



  • The pay range for this position is: Level 4 ($111,888 - $229,284) / Level 5 ($134,121 - $275,136). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
