Job Summary

The Occupational Therapist 2 (Per Diem) functions as a journey-level clinician responsible for organizing, coordinating, and delivering Occupational Therapy services to patients as assigned by the Occupational Therapy Supervisor. This role is designed for experienced therapists who have practiced in a variety of clinical settings and can function effectively with minimal supervision.

The OT 2 independently plans, evaluates, and implements comprehensive treatment programs for patients with complex conditions. They demonstrate sound clinical judgment in both treatment and documentation and are relied upon to manage patient care with a high level of autonomy.

In addition to direct patient care, the OT 2 serves as a resource for entry-level Occupational Therapists, providing clinical direction and support. They also contribute to staff orientation and are expected to participate in departmental training programs to support ongoing professional development and uphold the highest standards of care.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload a license and/or certification if required for the position

  • California Licensed Occupational Therapist
  • Must possess and maintain American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR Certification
  • 2 years of clinical experience in the field of Occupational Therapy
  • Experience working in an Acute care and/or a Rehab setting
  • Experienced in documentation via Electronic Medical Record
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills of occupational therapy theory and practices as evidenced by several years of clinical experience
  • Must be able to perform all responsibilities of a licensed Occupational Therapist as required and assigned by PM&R (Physical Medicine and Rehab) Leadership
  • Ability to communicate ideas and relate well with staff and patients to work as a team member
  • Willingness to assist other staff members with their caseloads
  • Professional competency in Occupational Therapy evaluation techniques, such as range of motion testing, muscle testing, cognitive/ perceptual testing, activities of daily living evaluation, sensory testing, and use of standardized testing of upper extremity function
  • Professional competency in Occupational Therapy treatment modalities, including activities of daily living and transfer training, strengthening, coordination, balance, range of motion, perceptual/cognitive skills training, wheelchair prescription, fabrication of splints and adapted devices
  • Ability to establish and maintain good rapport with patients and their families
  • Ability to train family in follow-through for home therapy programs; home visiting as necessary
  • Ability to communicate clearly on a professional basis with physicians and work cooperatively with a variety of health care professionals
  • Knowledge of requirements in processing for third-party payors
  • Ability to write progress notes, discharge plans, and other written reports as requested
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate the scheduling of patients in assigned areas of responsibility
  • Ability to organize time
  • Ability to be flexible and cooperative
  • Ability to verbally communicate pertinent information and knowledge of the profession for training and educating other hospital service personnel
  • Ability to organize training material
  • Skill in organizing written material
  • Knowledge of appropriate information required for patient and supply record keeping
  • Must see well enough to observe patient reactions and read relevant monitors, relevant device settings, and relevant written information such as the patient's medical record
  • Must hear and speak well enough to communicate with patients and staff throughout the day
  • Must possess the physical strength to assist with patient mobility
  • Must possess sufficient mobility to traverse the distances required to serve patients throughout the institution
  • Must have basic computer skills

Work Environment

  • UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco-free campus effective January 1, 2014.
