Gundersen Health System is hiring a fulltime, station-based Critical Care Paramedic, offering a 24/48 schedule. Gundersen Health System Ambulance has bases located at Tomah, Richland Center, Prairie du Chien (Wisconsin) and West Union, IA. Your home base(s) will be determined based on your proximity to a station with the ability to pick up shifts in other regional bases as desired.

What You'll Do:

As a Critical Care Paramedic on our ground Ambulance team, you will respond to emergent and non-emergent requests for emergency medical assistance in an Interfacility Transfer Service, for critical patients transported to a higher level of service and requiring care beyond that in the scope of a licensed paramedic, or when patient criticality meets criteria for air transport and air services are unavailable, operating under the guidance of local medical direction. You will demonstrate the ability to independently initiate and maintain medical procedures, medications, and evaluations beyond the scope of the paramedic while functioning as the sole practitioner in the ambulance setting. You must be able to operate and troubleshoot a ventilator, patient sedation, noninvasive position pressure ventilation, chest tube monitoring, and monitoring of central lines.

What's Available:

  • Fulltime, offering a 24-on/48-off schedule, with opportunities to pick up additional shifts

  • Will be located at the ambulance station during your scheduled shift(s)

  • After New Employee Orientation, will orientate to the bay and rigs at site specific location and will be scheduled 10x12hr ride along shifts with a Field Training Officer

  • Will be provided internal training for Incident Command System & Certified Emergency Vehicle Operation (CEVO) certifications if not already obtained

  • Starting pay of $25.38 per hour and up, based on your years of experience

What You'll Need:

  • High School Diploma or equivalency and completion of approved Critical Care Paramedic program. Associate degree in a health-related field desired

  • At least 3 years' work experience as a licensed Paramedic

  • National Registry Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (NREMT-P)

  • Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic - Wisconsin (EMT-P) & Iowa Paramedic License (EMT-P IA). Must have a critical care endorsement paramedic license in either Iowa or Wisconsin to begin employment, with critical care endorsement paramedic licenses in Iowa and Wisconsin required within 60 days of the hire date

  • Minnesota Paramedic License (EMT-P MN) required within 60 days of hire

  • Valid Wisconsin, Minnesota or Iowa driver's license

  • Current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (with hands on learning) from one of the following programs; American Heart Association or American Red Cross

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) & Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

  • ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 certificates required within 60 days of hire

  • Certified Emergency Vehicle Operation (CEVO) within 60 days of hire

  • Ability to function in an extended shift (24 hours or greater) environment and be able to constructively utilize down-time between responses or transfers.
