Primary Purpose of this Job

As Director, Health & Safety this position will be responsible for the overall direction and scope of the Safety & Health function within the Specialty Materials business unit. This will include management of EHS Managers at all Specialty Materials production sites, strong leadership of continuous improvement, strategic leadership of safety & Health strategy and compliance, and leadership at an enterprise-level for all functions within the Safety & Industrial Hygiene function.

A successful Director, Health & Safety will quickly grasp ATI's processes and business culture, assess where the organization is from a Safety & Health standpoint, successfully communicate both up and down the organization, identify and implement policy and projects to achieve ATI's goal of Zero Harm in the workplace.

Essential Functions (other duties may be assigned)



  • Program Management: Develop and manage comprehensive Safety and Industrial Hygiene programs, including hazard assessments, exposure monitoring, and control strategies.
  • Policy Development: Create and implement policies and procedures to mitigate Safety & Health risks and associated regulatory compliance.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct and oversee risk assessments to identify potential Safety and Industrial Hygiene hazards in the workplace.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to occupational health and safety.
  • Training and Education: Develop and deliver training programs for employees on Safety and Industrial Hygiene practices and protocols.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze Injury, Incident and exposure data to identify trends and develop corrective actions.
  • Collaboration: Work with other departments, such as Operation, Maintenance, Human Resources, Quality and Technology, to integrate Safety & Industrial Hygiene practices into daily operations.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present reports on Safety & Industrial Hygiene activities and findings to senior management.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure the proper maintenance and calibration Safety and Industrial Hygiene Monitoring & Measuring equipment.
  • Emergency Response: Develop and implement emergency response plans for Safety, Hazardous Weather and Catastrophic incidents.




  1. Minimum Job Requirements: (Equivalent combinations of education, licenses, certifications and/or experience may be considered)



Education Required



  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety & Industrial Hygiene or business related field or equivalent experience


Experience Required



  • Minimum of 10 years of leadership experience in the field of Health, Safety & Industrial Hygiene
  • Experience managing the Safety & Industrial Hygiene function at a manufacturing facility with 500+ team members
  • Inspection experience with radiation, air and noise exposures, crane & mobile equipment operations, machine guarding, Energy Isolation (LOTO), Hazardous Communication and related SDS management
  • Investigation experience in Root Cause Analysis, FMEA, HAZOP or other similar practices.
  • Prior experience achieving measurable and sustainable results in a lean manufacturing environment


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities typically required to perform the essential functions of this job.

Knowledge of:



  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, ACGIH guidelines & regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, and Power Point at a minimum) required to accomplish day-to-day work activities and willingness to learn additional programs.
  • Sufficient knowledge of company, products, objectives, and operations
