Position Description: Teachers hold primary responsibility for the implementation and development of The Excel Center (TEC) curriculum and the success of its students by facilitating learning and meeting where they are. Uses a student-centered approach effectively tailoring the instructional strategies to the individual student's with creativity and innovation. Plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students with disabilities in accordance with a student's Individual Education Program (IEP) or 504. Responsible for creating a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities, such that the students benefit from the general education curriculum to the greatest extent possible when supported with supplemental aids, accommodations, and other needed supports. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implements curricula and activities to meet academic standards. Builds lessons around student needs, including an alternatively-paced environment and the use of online learning tools and content.
- Delivers lessons in the classroom following the TEC planned curriculum aligned to standards using research-based practices and high-quality resources.
- Designs and implements assessments that measure progress toward academic standards, and remains accountable for student mastery aligned with Arizona State Standards.
- Accommodates the general education curriculum for students with disabilities (IEP or 504) using a variety of instructional techniques and technologies.
- Tracks and analyzes classroom data. Uses attendance and assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices to achieve learning goals.
- Focuses constantly on student learning and thinks critically and strategically to respond to specific learning needs across ability levels.
- Participates in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions aimed at improving student retention, productivity, school culture, and new student orientation.
- Communicates student progress effectively with students, families, and colleagues. Collaborates with team members to ensure student success.
- Works with coaches and leadership to support student progress toward graduation and postsecondary planning.
- Provides coordination for special education services, including the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)/504s and referrals to appropriate resources.
- Ensures the school is in compliance with Arizona Department of Education (ADE) special education and federal 504 requirements.
- Maintains accurate and compliant student records and prepares documentation as required by law.
- Holds IEP/504 case conference committee meetings to assist in developing measurable goals, benchmarks, and objectives to meet student needs.
- Regularly monitors the implementation of IEP/504s and provides progress reports to students and/or families.
- Develops compliant and comprehensive transition plans for students with special needs.
- Clearly communicates IEP/504 accommodations to general education team members and ensures accommodations/modifications are implemented on district, statewide, and national assessments.
- Supports students by administering and writing IEP/504s, and ensure specific designed instructional minutes are met.
- Provides support by coaching (e.g., tutoring and substituting). Maintains open communication with leadership, team members, and students to support student success.
- Attends all team and professional development meetings.
- Maintains regular and consistent in-person attendance.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills):
- Bachelor's Degree in Special Education; Licensed in Arizona for special education-mild and/or intense certification required
- Demonstrates an understanding of federal, state, and local mandates governing the determination and delivery of special education services
- Experience completing observations and reports pertaining to learning behaviors of students
- Must be accessible for school events, open houses, recruitment events, and fairs
- Ability to pass a background check, Online Arizona Certification Information System (OACIS) check, State Board of Education Disciplinary check, fingerprint clearance card check, and drug screen
- Ability to speak and read English proficiently
