Job Summary

The Recreation Groundskeeper assists with the maintenance of Milwaukee Recreation facilities (indoor and outdoor) throughout the city of Milwaukee. Major responsibilities include athletic field maintenance, playground inspections, facility cleaning, snow removal, lawn mowing, and minor maintenance tasks. The ideal candidate contributes to a positive team spirit, responds promptly to customer needs, looks for ways to promote and improve quality regarding the upkeep of Recreation facilities, is consistently at work on time, and shows a high level of initiative.

Salary Range: $52,317 - $63,744

THE SELECTION PROCESS: will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: education and experience evaluation; written, oral or performance tests; or other assessment methods. The Office of Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to oral and performance examinations. Oral examinations may include written exercises. Selection process component weights will be determined by further analysis of the job. Applicants will be notified by email the date, time and place of the examination.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • A minimum of one (1) year experience with the maintenance and repair of public and/or private facilities and/or grounds.
  • Valid driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and availability of a properly insured vehicle at the time of appointment and throughout employment.
Responsibilities

  • Maintains, cleans and inspects indoor and outdoor recreation facilities and grounds.
  • Conducts safety inspections of play equipment.
  • Maintains athletic fields including field preparation, backfilling, seeding, fertilizing, and aerating.
  • Installs baseball overhangs, tennis nets, soccer goals, and windscreens.
  • Maintains natural and synthetic turf areas.
  • Performs minor tree pruning and shrubbery maintenance.
  • Removes snow and ice from recreation facilities.
  • Assists with the maintenance and operation of:
    • Boilers and related equipment
    • Heating ventilation and cooling equipment
    • Splash pads and wading pools
    • Utility vehicles, snow plows, infield groomers, line striping machines.
    • Lawn and garden equipment
  • Conducts minor repairs of:
    • Playground equipment
    • Bleachers, player benches, and dug outs
    • Tennis nets and windscreens
  • Winterizing and spring field preparations
