Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE:APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an immediate opportunity for an experiencedOperations Technicianat our Delaware City, DE facility.
The Delaware City refinery H2 facility is located onsite at the PBF Refinery and consists of one SMR (steam methane reformer) unit and associated equipment.

You will work hand in hand with Mechanical Technicians, Instruments Technicians, other Operations Tech's, and Process Engineers to safely and efficiently maintain and operate the Hydrogen Plant, to include participating in the management of effective safety programs.

You will be responsible for controlling and monitoring the processes to produce hydrogen, which includes operating and controlling the following:

  • Water Treatment Systems (Boiler System)
  • DCS monitoring systems
  • Rotating Equipment
  • Catalyst Reactors
  • Pneumatically Operated and Manual Valves
  • Syngas Clean Up Skid

Required Skills / Abilities:

  • A strong mechanical aptitude
  • You are a Team player and flexible
  • Must be a self-starter and willing to work independently
  • A strong commitment to safety and working as a team and operational excellence
  • Work within procedure-based systems to ensure ES&H compliance, quality assurance, reliability, and cost control

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Ability to read and interpret piping schematics/ diagrams
  • Utilizing written procedures for starting and stopping equipment
  • Isolating systems for maintenance using work permits and lock out tag out process
  • Performing Water chemistry testing
  • Operating manual and pneumatic valves
  • Operating systems from remote location via Distributed Control System
  • Standing rotating watches outside normal working hours i.e.
  • Turbine Generator Watch
  • CCS/ DC Central Watch
  • Working safely in dynamic environments (loud, high temperatures, etc.)

Minimum Hiring Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or GED is required
  • Must be able to climb ladders and steps and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Must be willing to be on call to support 24x7 plant operations
  • Availability to work 12-hour rotating shifts
  • A dedicated Teammate with a commitment to safety
  • On limited occasions, flexibility to assist other AP sites in North America with Operations support, on a voluntary basis
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A valid driver's license is required

The Plant Operator position aligns very well with the experience learned in engineering department rates on both surface and sub-surface ships in both nuclear and non-nuclear ratings, such as:

  • Machinist's Mate
  • Electrician's Mate
  • Damage Control man
  • Engineman
  • Electronic Tech
  • Gas Turbine Systems Technician
